Anyone know a shea butter alternative. This stuff has a nutty smell and I don't like the smell. Is there anything else I could try that's an all natural product? :dontknow:

    What about other butters?
    Aloe, Avocado, Olive, etc.

I heard avocado is very similar. IMO no butter smells good. You might try adding some essential oil to it so you have a fragrance you can live with.
4a/b Texlaxed hair w/ highlights. Medium texture & high porosity.

HG's: CJ Daily Fix, Bobeam Cheris Hibiscus shampoo bar, KC Spiral Spritz, Knot Today, CJ Rehab, KBB LL Hair Mask, Cassia, KCCC, oil blend of Avocado, Camellia, Jojoba, & Meadowfoam oils

Some of the whipped butters are great. My current favorites are the ones from Shescentit:

    Her products smell great.

Cocoa butter is as moisturizing as shea butter but lacks the many additional benefits of shea butter.
Shea butter has many qualities which aren't found in other butters.
If you are just looking for a good moisturizer, you can try cocoa butter instead.

Try using a refined shea butter. it will have the same benefits and attributes of Shea Butter but the odor and color bodies are removed. This leaves an off white product with little to no odor.

Also in surfactant systems they make a water soluble shea and shea betaines. These will give moisturization and shine properties to shampoo systems.

    How about mango butter?
My hair is in the 4s, low in porosity, high in density and coarse. :happy6:

Love: QB - all of it, Bobeam - shampoo bars, Darcy's Botanicals - Pumpkin Seed Conditioner, Coconut Cupuacu Pomade, KBN - Shealoe Leave-in, Oyin - Juices & Berries, Kinky Curly - Knot Today, Ayurvedic treatments, my Denman and the cloud of kinky goodness on my head that I get to play with! :love8:

Refined shea butter is processed using high heat, and chemicals, and loses it's beneficial properties in that refining process. However, avocado butter is a good hair conditioner.

I find mango butter to be a bit heavy but sometimes you need something with a little oomph. A few months ago I purchased 2 mango butters from Kyra's. Both smell great and moisturize very well.

Hate to bump a super old topic but I too am looking for a replacement for shea as for as performance is concerned. I like the hold but not fond of the waxiness. I heard mango butter was a good replacement?
