Shoes make my little toe hurt

curlylauracurlylaura Posts: 8,352Registered Users
I work in a pharmacy and I'm on my feet all day. Recently my little toe on my right foot has been really tender. I had a feel of it and there is a ump on the outside edge, I suppose it's one joint up from the metatarsal. It's really sore and now I can only wear certain shoes or I'm in agony. Even just putting a shoe on hurts.

All my shoes fit properly and none are too narrow, although I have one foot longer than the other and sometimes my big toe on that foot touches the end of the shoe all my other toes are comfy until now.

Any idea what this could be? And how to fix it.

Maybe it's a bunionette? Did you even know there was such a thing? (ETA: somehow I ran across this recently while looking up something else -- didn't know it would turn out to be potentially useful to someone.)

If this is something new, and you haven't injured your toe, you might want to check with a doctor. Having hurting feet really sucks.

you might try these for relief...they help/work

    yoga toes

is it a bone that is hurting or just skin? the skin can be treated and may have been caused by friction. if it's bone that's more serious. did you hit your foot on something? did this come out of nowhere or has it been building? do your shoes offer adequate support?

Sounds like a corn/bunion/icky toe thingy. My mum gets them and regularly files them down herself. Gross but effective.

It definitely feels like bone rather than hard skin. I had an infection in the ball of the same foot a week or two ago and walked slightly on the side of my foot because it hurt to walk properly. Maybe that has pushed my toe against the inside of my shoe and caused a 'bunionette'. I had never heard of that, bunions yes but I didn't think this was one of those because it's so small but really sore but it does fit the description.

I do over-pronate on both feet so have arch supports and have to wear shoes that have laces to hold my feet up when I'm on my feet all day.

Well it turns out the lump is a corn. Painful but better than a bone deformity. How on earth do I treat it? Do corn pads with salicylic acid work? A podiatrist?

I've always had luck with the corn pads. I get corns a lot because I am always on my feet on hard cement and it just happens.
