I been cleaning out the products I don't care for and am on the hunt for some new lines to try. My hair hates castor oil, so it's a problem for me with a lot of the more natural lines. Anyone have any ideas. I've used/have a lot of the popular lines: Curl Junkie, Kinky Curly, Komaza, CURLS/Curly Q, Blended Beauty, Karen's Body Beautiful, Qhemet; AfroVeda; HairVeda; Ohm; Eulecence; Long Lovely Locks; Max Green; Donna Marie, Shescentit, Darcy's Botanicals, Loma, Giovanni, ABBA--to name a few.
Just got the Amourai Organic Curl Enhancer, the NjoiCreations pudding is on the way.
Anybody find anything new in the way of small, boutique, natural products for me to buy?? TIA

Here's what I come up with:
Christine Gant's etsy site:

http://www.brownbutterbeauty.com/ (blog)
This gets high reviews on LHCF but I can't tell if they have castor oil or not.
Have you tried Verbena Custom Blends on Etsy

Her stuff sounds so yummy! And many products don't appear to have castor oil.
I'll keep looking for you! Of course it will require countless hours of toil searching the net for hair products. I'll just consider that I'm taking one for the team o.k.?

Coconut hair pudding looks good
Or Garden of Wisdom products (helloitsio speaks highly and I think it's been mentioned by others too)
And I don't know whether you tried or if they have castor oil but Oyin Handmade has some great products (probably you've tried them already
Done experimenting! Loving Spiral Solutions products!

Kathymack, my hair seems to be similar to yours- do you know why your hair hates castor oil? I got some of the cv soap bars and I was thinking about trying them on my hair, but they do have that oil. What did it do to your hair? Is the only way I'll know to just try it? For people who can use it, do you know what the benefits of it are?
Thanks
Fine, normal to low porosity (still not sure which), ii, 3a/3b curls
Playing with products: HEBE Mousse, BRHG, AOMM, HESMU. Nothing blows my mind just yet.

The CV bar I tried made my hair dry, frizzy and tangled (my hair rarely tangles.) It was so bad, I gave both the bars I had away--didn't use them on my body. If I hadn't previously used a shampoo bar with great success, I would have never used another--it was that bad. It took my hair about two weeks to recover. Originally, I didn't know if it was the castor oil, avocado oil or shea butter that caused my problems. They were what was different about the CV bar and my previous bar. You won't know unless you try that or some other product with castor oil.
I found an organic bar that didn't have any of those ingredients. First I added shea butter, which my hair loved and then the avocado oil, which was fine. I've since used castor oil in another product with the same results (a product someone generously included in a swap.) Now, I look "gift horses" in the mouth and read all ingredients prior to use.
I think castor oil helps soap lather. Sorry to rant, it was that bad an experience.

The only reason I am even thinking about doing anything but cowashing is because my head gets a bit itchy. I don't know if it's more than it was before I started cg, because I never paid this much attention to my hair/scalp before. I don't know how much, if any, itching is normal. I also am interested because I saw somewhere that soap bars made your hair curlier which I would LOVE.
I will be a while figuring all this out!

I cowashed for six months. Took me two months to try the shampoo bar I got free with my cassia order. All I can say is WOW! If you look at my fotki pictures, you can see the difference that the soap bars have made with my hair. (Tighter curls and more volume.) I used to be a winter wavy/summer curly. Now my hair looks like my signature picture all of the time. I think the soap bars are the single most important thing I've done for my hair.

heather, I did see your post on this line. My hair usually likes the same products as yours, so I'm definitely thinking of buying some of the products. I sometimes have an issue with shea butter making my hair "hard." I've been thinking it has to do with the quality of the ingredients--it usually happens with the less expensive products.

Got the Coconut hair pudding yesterday. Our temps are low, but even after a night in the house (mid 60's) it's still hard. Here are the ingredients:
babassu butter, organic virgin coconut cream, shea butter, beeswax, organic aloe vera juice, vegetable glycerin, manuka honey, lavender flower, vitamin e, fragrance, potassium sorbate.
In texture, it reminds me of the HairVeda Vatika Frosting. In this state, I won't be able to use it on wet hair--I'd have to use way too much. I emulsified a little on my hands and smoothed on my canopy before running out to do errands. It's raining and my hair didn't frizz at all, it's soft and doesn't feel at all producty. (Haven't done my hair yet, today.)
