giving a product a 2nd or 3rd try...

i'm happy i gave the Curl Junkie Hibiscus & Banana Honey Butta Leave In Conditioner a 2nd try (thanks sbb). when i used it at first it was as a leave in on my loose hair. i felt like it didn't absorb. i finished it but decided not to buy it again, i even put that note by it where i rate my products that i've used.

fast forward to sbb saying she got great results using it on dry twists. i didn't even check my notes. i ordered it. then i looked at my notes. dang. oh well. it came and i tried it on dry twist...LOVED IT!!! sbb pointed out that it has Behentrimonium Methosulfate (BMSulfate) which helps detangle hair...i'm glad i didn't read my notes. now my only complaint is that i have to use quite a bit on my dry hair but the results are super nice. i need to order more...i'm almost out.

so...what are some of the products you didn't like the first time but loved after giving it a 2nd or 3rd try?

I like that Hibiscus & honey butta leave in as well, I havent tried it on twisted hair but it popped my curls something fierce on a washngo, I just didnt like how long it took for the product to absorb along with the white look.

I had to give QB Amla and Olive Heavy Cream another try because at first it was soo thick. Now I know I have to emulsify itin my hands first and sometimes mix it with the hydrating balm or burdock root cream. Its awesome now and I always keep 3 jar stacked.

The Afroveda Moringa Detangler was so watery I didnt know what to do with it however I mixed it in a spritz bottle and it worked perfect to mist my twists everyday, if I repurchase it , I will remember to use it this way.

Mostly everything else has worked for me because I always find another way to use it. Darcys Coconut Pomade was just sitting unused in my stash , so now Im using it as a body butter after I get out of the shower. nothing goes unused, it just might take awhile for me to work my way thru my stash lol

I've been burned before so I keep my products for a LOOONG while before I decide it isn't for me.

A recent example of this has been the [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Kinky-Curly-Spiral-Spritz-p-915.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=Kinky-Curly-Sprial-Spritz-Natural-Styling-Serum]KC Spiral Spritz[/buylink]. Before I was using it as a refresher and it is not that great. Then I tried again on wet hair after washing and before styling. It gives me nice definition and shine on a different level than what I thought before.

I've had to do this with several products. I try to make sure I use my products 2-3 different ways/product application methods before I give up on it. Using this method, there are very few products that don't work for me...which is great!

I recently got the banana honey butta in a swap and when I take my twists down (they have been in for 3 weeks) I'm going to use that and the hibicus conditioner and retwist my hair.

that's what i'm discovering too...in the case of that curl junkie product i'm going to buy more because it's so on point for dry twists!!

it's cool that so many natural hair products can be used on the body. i discovered that when i used the hairveda almond glaze on my skin when i was in vegas a few weeks ago and wanted some extra sheen on my skin by the pool ;-)

Since I grew out of my twa, there have been no more wash and go days for this coarse kinky hair but as it grows longer, I'm getting more hopeful. In the meantime, I've recently begun using my [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Kinky-Curly-Curling-Custard-p-778.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=kinkycurly-curling-custard]KCCC[/buylink] as a styling gel over my Ohm Body Sweet Hair Pudding for Braidouts, Two-stand Twists/Twistouts and I'm loving the results.

I revisited two others prior for the same purpose and love the results that I acheived with both of them as well. One was Aubrey Organics Mandarin Magic Hair Moisturizing Jelly on a Braidout. The other was Kiss My Face Upper Management Hair Styling Gel. Super Definition but unfortunately I seen a little crystallization.

i have the aommhmj. it didn't really work for me either. does it make your hair hard? how do you use it? when you say you use it on a braidout you mean when you braid it or when you set it free? do you mix it? i was on the verge if giving it away but of course i'd like to use it if i can and if it's helpful.

    Hey there,

For my braidout, after i cowash and apply conditioner, I section and style in sections so while wet/damp, I apply Ohm Sweet Hair Pudding to the section i'm getting ready to braid and then I apply the gel directly on top of the sweet hair pudding. I found that adding gel reduces the frizz and bulk a little when I wear a braidout. it really doesn't make a big difference when I do a twistout because I'll usually wear the twists for a week but for a braidout i usually release the braids the next morning. If I'm lucky, I'll get to keep the braids in an extra day but that's rare in my world. lol I don't the aommhmj makes my hair hard at all and I definitely don't find it to be drying, which is a rarity with most of the gels I used in my relaxed days. When using [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Kinky-Curly-Curling-Custard-p-778.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=kinkycurly-curling-custard]KCCC[/buylink] on wash and go styles when in a twa, i thought is was drying but over the OHM SHP I don't think it's drying either, and neither is the KMF UMSG. It could be the moisture from the OHM SHP counteracting the drying effects though.

I think I first used it in 2006, right before or shortly after I was entire natural. Ramen noodles and crunch. I used it again a year or so later over Aveda Elixir and :love7:. Whenever I need a bulletproof hair day Abba Pure Gentle (formerly Abba Nourishing) under [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Kinky-Curly-Curling-Custard-p-778.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=kinkycurly-curling-custard]KCCC[/buylink] will do it.

Regarding Honeybutta, I can't even remember why I decided to try it on dry hair to twist. I tried Set it Free on dry hair to twist because I was traveling and hadn't brought any Moringa Leave in. That's how I found the SIF works better. I spray a couple of sprays in my hand and smooth down the length of a section before twisting. It loosens up my clumped hair enough to twist easily.

I retried KBB Hair Milk after calling it a bust on my hair. I automatically use a couple of pumps to boost a conditioner's detangling properties. And I recently used it successfully for the ends of my dry twists, followed by a drop of baobab oil or Qhemet Olive Honey Balm.

I may retry [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/CURLS-Whipped-Cream-p-883.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=Curls-Whipped-Cream]Curls Whipped Cream[/buylink], now that it has beantree. I remember it had too much drag to apply easily to my hair at the time, but I liked it.

One product I have given a 2nd/3rd try and haven't felt comfortable with is Lustrasilk as a leave in. It's just too heavy for my hair and rather highly colored for a gray haired person.

I've given Qhemet's hair butters another try. I don't know what # this is though. I used the burdock root butter cream on wet hair and it was wonderful. I didn't get that producty feeling I get from the afroveda butters. :)

I think I have given up on the honeybush soft hold gel and the honey balm though. :sad5:

Ladies it's because of YOU that I buy and try EVERYTHING over and over again. I always search on products here to see how they are being used and there are ususally 6-8 ways to use a product either by itself or in combination with something else. How can I ever give anything away? It's just a post away from working on my 4A hair! I thank you from the epitome of my anatomy! :toothy4:

Another product I initially tried and didn't get was [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/CURLS-Curls-Milkshake-p-884.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=Curls-Curls-Milkshake]Curls Milkshake[/buylink]. Then one day I tried it on dry hair and liked how it smoothed and moistened the hair. I began dampening my 2nd day hair and applying the [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/CURLS-Curls-Milkshake-p-884.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=Curls-Curls-Milkshake]Milkshake[/buylink] to refresh the curl. That was the beginning of my 2nd day hair journey.

I just purchased some [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/CURLS-Curls-Milkshake-p-884.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=Curls-Curls-Milkshake]Curls Milkshake[/buylink]. It came yesterday, but I held off and using it because I wanted to try it on freshly co-washed hair. I'm hoping it will be something I can use to refresh during the winter. Since I'm almost 26 weeks pregnant, I'm trying to find a simple winter routine that doesn't involve too much daily manipulation. I'll keep your routine in mind, SBB!

Try the honeybush over a styling cream and mix the hydrating balm with the heavy cream. Don't give up. Both of those are fab.

hippychic, I agree with kinky rhonnie. I use the honey bush over the burdock root and it works just like a curly custard product. Gives me nice soft, bouncy curls. I sometimes use the honey balm as a pre-poo, mix it with a deep conditioner, use it on freshly washed hair, mix it with the burdock root. Wonderful products. Keep trying:happy3:
