Silk Peptide powder?

Fusilli_headFusilli_head Posts: 58Registered Users
Has anyone tried adding silk peptide powder to their conditioner or shampoo? I'm thinking about trying it out and eventually making it a staple ingredient in my homemade shampoo bars/conditioners/hair butters. Are there any side effects to using silk, like hardness, protein sensitivity, buildup, etc that I should be aware of? Thanks!

    Hi,

I add it to my mom's homemade conditioner. She has fine hair so I it really helps to strengthen her hair while making it extra soft.

I haven't added it to already made conditioners but I think if you are formulating a recipe from scratch, silk will be a wonderful addition. I love conditioners that have silk as an ingredient. :love2:

I haven't tried it but I'd suggest not using it on a regular basis if it contains protein.

Remember that occasional protein strenghtens the hair while too much makes the hair brittle resulting in breakage.

Fusilli where are you buying your silk peptide? I did a search on the Texas Natural supply site and they did have a silk protein powder. Is that the same thing? Thanks for sharing.;-)

Silk peptide power is fabulous for dryhair. I would use it in rose floral water as an after wash hydrant spray andfinish with Leonor Greyl Eclat Naturel styling cream for dry hair. My curls areshiny and bouncy. Although taking care of dry hair is both internal and externalI also take Royal Jelly for it amino acids and silica along with having aproper diet. Although, I am a vegetarian I make sure to have two boiled eggseveryday with ***e’ greek yogart. I now have long strong nail and nourished hair.

In addition, I use the silk peptide powderin my body and face creams for added moisture. I purchased Royal Jelly withpropolis and bee pollen which I mix with bees wax and coconut oil and floralwater. Mind you a little bit goes a long ways. My ritual when washing my facewould be first cleanse with honey, second sprits with floral water and silkpeptide and my royal jelly cream. Done.

I no longer buy the high-end beautyproduces as I can produce a custom higher quality product myself.

How much do you use? I have a little packet of silk protein I haven’t used yet because I’m not sure how much to add and to which product. Also not sure if I should use it before or after heat styling, my hair is super thin and dry and angry. I can’t find anything on how much powder to add per ounce.
