What do you look for in a thermal protectant/straightening product?

Water-soluble silicones? Silk Amino Acids? Proteins? Keratin? Alcohol-Free? What ingredients make your hair the best it can be when straightened?
And do you do anything else specifically before straightening your hair (like applying a leave in)?

Please define if you're CG, modified, or not CG! :salut:

i guess you can say im mod cg since i use a low poo and on occasions, i use a soap bar. i dont really look for much in a heat protectant. just no cones. i use the GVP Chi straightner from Sally's. works really well on my hair.

I use John Frieda Frizz-Ease Straight Answer Straightening Spray before I flat-iron (which I love). This is CG - no cones. It contains PEG-12 dimethicone which is okay, I believe.

I use Chi 44 Iron Guard Thermal Protection Spray when I flat-iron. I really like this - it's not heavy or greasy or sticky. I believe that this is safe for CGs, too.

But, I'm really trying hard not to flat-iron my hair anymore. I am a new modified CG as of September. :)
Hair Type - wavy/curly, fine texture, thin/medium density
