Name That Puppy! * * (he's here!)

CurliLocksCurliLocks Posts: 10,571Registered Users
At the request of my son, I am starting a new post to help name the puppy. :) We won't get him for another week or so (probably) and maybe his personality will give a clue later, but my son wanted to ask the Curlies!

Here he is, currently called Dragonfly (only because the litter was all named after bugs, they run out of names) --

Names we have thought of:

Kona
Cocoa
Mocha
Maui
Draco
Drago
Dragon
Basil (majestic, kingly)
Duncan
Almond
Java
Shadow
Radar (the ears!)
Merlin

OK, add your name suggestions! Remember he's a Boy. Go! :D

From your list I think Radar suits him. I love all the serious, majestic, meaningful names, but those eyes make me think he is going to be NONE of those things. I think he is going to be fun and funny and silly. And I mean that all in a very positive way! I think he will be an awesome dog.

I would name him BUG because I think it suits him (and also as an homage to his 'birth' name, which I think was adorable.)

He has such a sweet, innocent face, so a big-tough-guy name doesn't sound right for him.

I like Radar. Very cute! (And Radar from MASH - who grew up next door to my mom - had that sweet and innocent thing going on!)

He's got some blue merle coloring. I'd call him Blue.
But is it? I thought blue merle was black and gray. He is black and brown. But merle did come to mind when I saw his color too.

If forgot to add Merlin to the list of names, due to his coloring.

Here's his mom, she got adopted already. He looks the most like her of the litter, but he has more brown. /home/leaving?target=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.smileydogrescue.org%2Fblueweb%2Fdogs_for_adoption%2Fdogs_for_adoption_details.asp%3Fid%3D3813" class="Popup

Blue merle is a black or red-brown base, with gray or reddish patches. He looks blue merle to me.

I like Merlin, and also Jeep's suggestion of Bug, to salute his littername of Dragonfly.

Brindle is on the money.. ..

Radar is my top choice without knowing the dog..

Also when picking names for a dog that has even a hint of pit appearance you want something manly without being intimidating. I have a feeling that he will run through things like a diesel truck but diesel would be a bit much ;)

    Radar works for me..

I like Radar from the list.

    Not from the list:

    Tucker
    Calvin
    Jasper
    Carl

No rhyme or reason to the off-list names; they just seem like they could suit him depending on his personality.

I wouldn't name my dog after a detection device, but he looks very alert, so, I vote for Radar.

Getting some good suggestions here! Keep it going! :D
Feel free to suggest anything, the list was just a starting point for us.

My son liked the Cody suggestion, and Radar is growing on him (he didn't like it when I suggested it initially). The only thing is that his ears *may* not stand erect when he is fully grown. They still go up and down each day; when we met him, he had one up and one folded over--so cute! Hubby likes Mocha and Kona, as his color reminds him of coffee. ;)

Son says Bug is out, he doesn't want to say one day, "I hate bugs!" or "Squash that bug!" and hurt the dog's feelings. LOL

A man just came over for the inspection. We we're quite ready, as there are still things at puppy level that could be chewed, etc. But I did stress that Puppy is not house-trained so will be sleeping in a crate, will not be left alone loose in the house at all, keeping mostly to the kitchen area (no carpet) and living room while I supervise him. He will be supervised outside as well (stuff to chew there too, plants and all). :? But a puppy should never be left alone without being contained anyway, right? Just like a baby. :)

The man is the father of one of the volunteers. He will speak to them and hopefully one of them will call me about pickup details. Like I said before, we were led to believe we wouldn't get him until 9/12 so we are still in the process of preparing. :p
