1. how many inches of hair do you have?
I have 3 inches of hair :sign5:

2. how many inches did you have when you began your natural hair journey or after your BC?
I began my journey with no inches :love1: I had a shaved head.

3. how long have you been on this natural journey?
I have been loose natural for 7 months.

4. has caring for your hair become more or less difficult with growth?

When my hair was shorter, it seemed much easier to handle. Now that I am getting some growth, it's more of a challenge. I don't have much time to spend on my hair during the work week. Twists/twist-outs still look scalp-y on me :(

5. have you found your staple products?
yes, for the most part

what about you?
LOIS (OS); cottony, TYPE 4 hair, fine/med strands; no cones bcz my hair hates them; last relaxer '98; now low porosity:?, ignores most natural hair rules; BC #8

faves: suave, v05 shampoo, conditioner (my own), raw shea butter, castor oil, peanut oil, aloe juice

    1. how many inches of hair do you have?
I have between 3-6 shrunken inches. The front is shorter than the crown and back. It's 8-10 inches straight (I've currently got it flatironed)

    2. how many inches did you have when you began your natural hair journey or after your BC?
1 inch curly, 3 inches straight.

    3. how long have you been on this natural journey?
I've been fully natural since March 2008. I've cut my hair 3 times since then.

    4. has caring for your hair become more or less difficult with growth?
It hasn't become more difficult, it's just become different. I wore wash n gos for almost a year with no problem. This year I decided to dedicate myself to obtaining health and length, so I twist more now. That takes significantly more time, but it's time that I decided to make.

    5. have you found your staple products?
some, but not all. [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Kinky-Curly-Curling-Custard-p-778.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=kinkycurly-curling-custard]KCCC[/buylink] is a staple for me, as is avocado oil. I actually still get great results with Aphogee's 2-step treatment, and I'm trying to narrow down my deep conditioner choices. I love all things ayurveda, that's a new staple. I'm just now realizing that my hair doesn't care much for co-washing. Slowly but surely I'll get there though!

I like this thread already :blob:.

    1. how many inches of hair do you have?
longest is 3-6 inches coily; 13-16 inches stretched.

How many inches did you have when you began your natural hair journey or after your BC?
    1/2 inch or so stretched.

    3. how long have you been on this natural journey?
BC January 2007. Mini BC April 2008

    4. has caring for your hair become more or less difficult with growth?

It's just different. When shorter, washing, conditioning, shaking, and going was a lifestyle. As it got longer, I began smoothing conditioner and holding products in section, etc (think conditioner only method). At it's current length, wash-n-gos are simply a no-no all together because it never dries and curls up on itself. I wash once or twice a week and apply products and style on dry stretched hair instead freshly washed and wet. Length has also given me styling options to stretch hairstyles without much manipulation (pulling old hair in buns, ponytails, etc)

    5. have you found your staple products?
well, at least for the summer. It's my first winter as a loose natural, so I'm sure some surprizes are just around the corner.

    1. how many inches of hair do you have?
    About 8 inches stretched...i think.

    2. how many inches did you have when you began your natural hair journey or after your BC?
    about 1.5 inches curly.

    3. how long have you been on this natural journey?
ooohh...seems like forever, but it's been 9 years.

    4. has caring for your hair become more or less difficult with growth?
A little more difficult but as the years have passed I have learned more of what works best with my hair at many different lengths. It is just time consuming so I have to establish my "hair day" every week to two weeks. Wash and go's are a no-no.

    5. have you found your staple products?
Of course. My hair is in love with Qhemet biologics Alma and Olive heavy cream and castor oil is another favorite.

    1. how many inches of hair do you have?
I have about 5 curly inches right now
    2. how many inches did you have when you began your natural hair journey or after your BC?
I began my journey with 4 inch straight (1 curly), but before I found this site, I heat damaged my hair so I finally just cut off the last of the damage.
    3. how long have you been on this natural journey?
I bc'd in may of 08, but stopped flat ironing in september, so I like to count from there.
    4. has caring for your hair become more or less difficult with growth?
I'd say less. With a little length, my twist/twistouts are less scalpy. I want growth, so I have been trying to do twists for longer now, which leaves me with more time for the many other things on the to-do list.
    5. have you found your staple products?
yes, finally. It is about trial and error, and thanks to this site, I have tried things I ordinarily wouldn't have. I gave up on shea butter, and my hair has thanked me. But who would think something as light as kbb hair milk would moisturize my hair like this! I was a grease girl, and my hair grew fast with it. It isn't growing so fast without it, but boy is it healthy.:blob:

    1. how many inches of hair do you have?
    12-13 coiled. Alomst 15 stretched

How many inches did you have when you began your natural hair journey or after your BC?
    2 inches

    3. how long have you been on this natural journey?
I went natural in 2000 after a two month transition. After 5 year, after a pregnancy induced mania, I cut it all off again. (2 inches)

    4. has caring for your hair become more or less difficult with growth?
There is more hair, so there is more to deal with. TWA's are easy, not much to do with. And long is easy. When all else fails..ponytail. It's the middle stage that is tricky

    5. have you found your staple products?
Yup. Skikakai and alma tea for cleansing. (I'll use a shampoo bar from Oyin if I feel my hair is really dirty) I still love the kinky curly line

in the very back 8 inches; at the crown more than 12 i would say 13-14 ( i did a light blow dry last night)

    2. how many inches did you have when you began your natural hair journey or after your BC?
well i big chopped in 1995...then i cut my hair to shoulder length (straight in 1999)
then I cut it to halle berry sword fish short in 2001
at that time it was 3-5 inches straightened but layered

    3. how long have you been on this natural journey?
since i was 16 so 16 years! wow

    1. how many inches of hair do you have?
    18 inches

    2. how many inches did you have when you began your natural hair journey or after your BC?
    3 inches

    3. how long have you been on this natural journey?
i'll have to look at my signature, but I think about 3 years.

    4. has caring for your hair become more or less difficult with growth?

More difficult. It's just so much hair. When it was short, it was easy to just wash n go, but I'm Muslim and wear hijab, so I had to figure out how to flatten it so my scarf didn't look so weird. When it was a longer, it was easier to just pull back into a pony tail. Now it's so thick and long that I can't just keep it in a pony tail. I have to do something with it and that takes a while.

    5. have you found your staple products?
I have become less of a product junkie as my hair has grown. The only constant in my hair life is Suave Naturals conditioners.

Now that it's short it's way more difficult to deal with IMO. It got a lot curlier and harder to style.

Er, it's about the same. I just find I can do more with it in terms of styling.

nope. I'm finding that silicone is not my friend, though, and as a result of eliminating it from my ingredient lists my hair has been a LOT softer.

    1. how many inches of hair do you have?
Last time I checked I had 16 inches in the front and about 17 inches in the back.

    2. how many inches did you have when you began your natural hair journey or after your BC?
I did the BC in September 2007 and I had approximately 5 inches of hair.

    3. how long have you been on this natural journey?
My last relaxer was Nov. 2006 so I guess almost 3 years. If you count from the BC, it'll be 2 years on 9/23.

    4. has caring for your hair become more or less difficult with growth?
Its been easier now that I have more length. I now do buns almost on a daily basis so I don't have to worry about heat or too much manipulation with wash n go's. Once its in a bun it stays put, frizz free, until I go home and take my hair down.

    5. have you found your staple products?
Yes! Finally! I am sticking with all Afroveda products. I love Hairveda too, but I am more into butters now and Afroveda's line has everything that I need. I also do Amla treatments one or twice a month. I pre-poo with coconut oil and olive oil. I'm trying to keep it simple now. My hair loves conditioners and butters so that's what I'm sticking to now.

    1. how many inches of hair do you have?
I haven't measured my hair in months but if it is growing at the rate is usually grows I should have about 4 1/2 to 5 inches

    2. how many inches did you have when you began your natural hair journey or after your BC?
    .5 to 1 inch

    3. how long have you been on this natural journey?
Today makes it the start of month number 9 yay!

    4. has caring for your hair become more or less difficult with growth?

I have not been doing anything except wash-and-gos and some minor experimenting. It's easy to take care of in terms of washing and moisturizing, but more difficult with styling.

    5. have you found your staple products?
    I'm not sure honestly....

    1. how many inches of hair do you have?
I have about 6.5-7 inches of hair. Not quite sure how long that is curly but it's probably not any more than 3-4 inches.

    2. how many inches did you have when you began your natural hair journey or after your BC?
I had about 4.5 inches of hair when I BCed (I could have have had more around 5.5 but I had scab hair and really wanted to trim it all off).

    3. how long have you been on this natural journey?
It's been a little more than 17 months since my last relaxer and a little more than 4 months since I cut the straight ends off.

    4. has caring for your hair become more or less difficult with growth?
It's getting heck of a lot easier now that my hair is slowly creeping to ponytail length. Before I could only do a TWA, twist-outs and a very small puff but now with a bit more length I feel more comfortable wearing my hair in twists, curled with rollers, flat-twisted front etc. as well as the other styles I wore in the beginning.:hello1:Me and my hair are having an awesome time now that I've actually got something of a routine down and I've become used to it.

    5. have you found your staple products?
I'm still always looking for new products but I'm really not as bad as a PJ as I was before. At this point I'm trying to use up all my products (Oyin, KBB, KC, Giovanni.... :shock:etc.) so my routine is pretty flexible depending on what my hair needs at the moment and what I'm trying to achieve. But for the most part my staples are Aussie Moist conditioner, [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Oyin-Handmade-Shine-and-Define-Styling-Serum-p-253.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=oyin-shine-and-define-styling-serum]Oyin's Shine and Define[/buylink] and Juices and Berries, [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Kinky-Curly-Curling-Custard-p-778.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=kinkycurly-curling-custard]KCCC[/buylink], AOHR, Yes to Carrots Hair Mask, camellia oil, shea butter (but it's more of a winter thing), coconut milk, henna and of course the most important... water! Also, I don't use all these products at once. Typically I only use about 3-4 at one time.

4 (at the crown), 5(at the nape) and 3 everywhere else. Just had a drastic trim

    2. how many inches did you have when you began your natural hair journey or after your BC?

2 inches all round after my BC, I was expecting a uniform texture so I kept cutting off the looser curls (d'oh!).

    3. how long have you been on this natural journey?
    Almost a year

    4. has caring for your hair become more or less difficult with growth?

Just different, I now have a mullet and the different textures are more noticeable.

    5. have you found your staple products?
    Nope,hence the PJ-ism

Just have to say, I hate having a mullet back there! All the 3cish curls just droop down and make any out hairstyles I do look weird :( Why can't you grow out like your sisters?!

I know! Makes me frustrated at times, I have to redo the twists there everyday. Managing my afro has now become near impossible. My hairdresser advised against cutting it (she initially thought I still had straight hair left), as it is just going to grow back that way.

I have approx. 8.5-9 inches in back nape area, 8 inches in the crown and front, and 7.5 on the sides

When i did the BC I was left with 2 inches all around with 2.5 inches in some spots stretched

    3. how long have you been on this natural journey?
I have been natural along with my two girls for one year as of August.

    4. has caring for your hair become more or less difficult with growth?
I wouldn`t say it is difficult so much as it gets more and more time consuming to detangle.
Detangling is my biggest problem right now, styling is easier bc i can pony my hair if i am in a hurry.

    5. have you found your staple products?
For the most part,I am still a hardcore PJ but I am working on recovery,I would say my favorite products are Qhemets, henna, Jane Carter, and V05 conditioners.

    1. how many inches of hair do you have?
not a clue. i haven't measured in ages.

    2. how many inches did you have when you began your natural hair journey or after your BC?
    5 1/2 inches

    3. how long have you been on this natural journey?
completely natural for 9 1/2 years

    4. has caring for your hair become more or less difficult with growth?

More difficult. The longer it got, the drier it got, so it took more effort to keep it moisturized. I also had to find new styles because daily wash-n-go's out of the question.

    5. have you found your staple products?
    Yep! :)

    1. how many inches of hair do you have?
I haven't measured my hair in months but if it is growing at the 1/2 inch a month rate, so I'm guessing about 7 to 8 1/2 inches

    2. how many inches did you have when you began your natural hair journey or after your BC?
    about 1/4 to 1/2 of a inch

    3. how long have you been on this natural journey?
    Friday will be 17 months

    4. has caring for your hair become more or less difficult with growth?
Not necessarily. As my hair grows, I can do more styles with it but sometimes it can be a time consuming. Once my hair hit that 5 to 6 inch mark, wash and gos were definitely a no-no.

    5. have you found your staple products?
