CurlTalk

Pardon my ignorance, but......

I've been reading your threads about the Denman brush. Some of you are talking about holding the brush at different angles, etc. I just don't get it, and I'm unable to visualize it. How about someone making a video of this? I'm sure there are others who could also benefit from it. I bought the brush, but I'd like to learn how to use it, so I can get the great results that some of you are getting. Thanks!

I'm not sure what others do, but when I use my Denman I brush at an angle away from my scalp. I use a sweeping up and out motion with my arm and wrist (almost like I'm drawing a C in the air with my hand). It seems to work great! I get some amazing clumps from doing this!

I don't have the ability to make a video; so hopefully someone else will come along with a better explanation!

That's about how I do it, after first brushing my products thru thoroughly. Then I flip over and rewet it a la the Super Soaker method (but with a spray bottle), sometimes apply a little more gel, scrunch gently 'til curling well again (still upside down), then diffuse upside down for a few minutes.

The upright up and out thing works better for me than just brushing upside down, rewetting, then diffusing. If I do that, sometimes I end up with some very straight pieces that won't ever start curling back up properly, :dontknow: IDK why - up and out just sort of 'aerates' the hair, releasing the curl while getting and keeping the hair off my head. Rewetting doesn't undo it, as long as you handle it gently, not scrunching too much or too vigorously.

After diffusing a few minutes, I clip the top and then diffuse a little more rightside up before air drying.

Thanks CurlyCourt and Auntnett. I think I get it. The angle is not how you hold the brush but actually brushing your hair out so the hair actually creates an angle in the air as opposed to brushing straigh down/or upside down. Is this correct? The arcing "C" in the air really helped.

I don't even see that the angle matters, just getting it out and away from your head so it doesn't lie flat against it

This is precisely how I do it as well. When product is on my hair and I brush it like this.. is snaps up into some clumps. I separate them.. but I do know if I wanted clumps regularly this is how I could get them.

But yep..exactly how you explained it is the same way I do it to. I actually learned about it by accident one day a while back when I just happened to angle the brush and I had to figure out what the heck I was doing.. LOL! Cause I thought the effect was kinda neat!
