Sew-in with micros...

pulchri2dinouspulchri2dinous Posts: 1,014Registered Users
What kind of hair do I buy for this style?

I'd like to do this to go back to school (it's a sew-in with micros in the front), but I don't know what type of hair I should buy. I usually do straight weaves, so I have no idea about curly ones. I'd rather have the type of curly hair that hangs rather than the one that looks really big (I don't know why, but I don't like extravagant extensions. I never get extensions longer than shoulder length). I've got my eyes on this one too (since I would like my hair braided to the end ), but I'm afraid it might be too big? I really don't know how a curly weave will look on me at all! Do I buy different hair for the micros? If anyone has done this and has pictures I'd love to see them.

Thanks :toothy4:

hey hey! I've done it! All of my micros for the last hmmm 5 years or so has been a micro/sew-in combo (because I like them short, short in length and short in sitting time!)
I buy hair on the track and I have the braider just cut the hair off the weft for the micros. So I use the same hair for both the micros and the sew-in. Works just fine! I wish I could find more pics. I used romance curl hair for all of the micro-sewins and had the braider cut it like bob length comes out really really hot!

    found pics!

Thank you! the last time I got them I had them for about 5 months. Sooo easy to wash and care for them and cheap to get the edges retouched. I would've kept them in longer but there was too much new growth.

I washed weekly after i washed I would oil my scalp roller set the hair with setting lotion and sit under the dryer. Sitting under the hood dryer ensured my sew-ins (cornrowed part) dried completely as well as gave my curls a shiny new look when I took the rollers out the next day.
Another plus is that there is so much more selection with hair on weft than hair that comes in (braid) bundles. SO you have loads of style options!
I love it- its the only way I would get micros ever again.

Wow five months! How often did you get the edges retouched and how much did you pay for that? So, you kept the weaved part in for five months and just redid the edges?

yep I only retouched the edge once. And I didn't touch the sew-in part (even though there was ridiculous new growth) I was in college out in New England so I was way too busy to get me hair completely redone. But it turned out to be such a great style for me!
I really liked the fact that I could wash my hair so often without seeing my micros going down the drain
    lol
I payed like pshh when I got them done in NYC I paid 85 when I got them done here in Atlanta I paid like 100

I live in New England and I go to UConn. I'm really excited about this style now! 85/100 was for the whole style or just to retouch the edges? I had to beg my stylist to do this style for me, because she HATES doing braids. She says they take way too long, but she's the only one I trust to do my hair (aside from my cousin in Jamaica who didn't come up this year!) I haven't found out how much she will charge yet. I hope I can get it to last long though! I exercise about 4 times a week, so I'm thinking I'll probably wash once a week and redo the edges every 6 weeks... or something like that (I know a girl at school who is capable, because I know my hair stylist wouldn't be up for it lol) . I'm just a little curious about what to do with the curly weave after I wash it. You have been really helpful and I appreciate your response!

85/100 was for the whole style. yeah I went to Tufts in medford, ma.
definitely try to sit under a hood dryer after you wash it makes a huge difference! Good luck! post pics!

Wow that looks good! I've been thinking about getting a sew-in but I hadn't even considered doing it with micros instead of with regular hair. I LOVE it!

Pretty! I haven't had braids in a minute, but this is my style of choice when I get them. My body can't take all the sitting from braids.

Hey! How long did this style last for you?
    Was it curly or straight?
If it was curly, what did you do to it after you washed it?
How often did you redo the edges?

I've tried curly and straight (with tree braids), but I prefer curly human hair. I leave mine in for 6-8 wks, with touch ups at about a month. I get it washed at a salon, but they plait it, wash it and add moisturizer. I can't leave braids in my hair for too long since it has a tendancy to knot and loc up.

Hmm I never thought of plaiting it to wash it. That's a good idea. I'm going to try to keep that style until december and just redo the edges every 4-6 weeks and the weave every two months. Thanks so much for your input :) Oh and my cousin is here so I don't have to worry about my edges anymore! :occasion7:

Unfortunately, the sew in with micros never happened and I ended up doing box braids myself!
