every since i was young. i was brought up to be ashamed and hide my curls because all of my other family members have short coarse hair. my granny pressed it, permed it. now that im almost 18. ive taken control of my own hair. i made the decision that i wasnt gonna be ashamed to wear my hair curly because my cousins and aunts were jealous.

and here i am....with 3 inches of new growth...and the rest is relaxed...it makes me cry just looking at it. my new growth is beautiful springy curls...and the other...well...is a hot mess :sad1:

can somebody help me with this journey plz.....
i forgot how beautiful my curls were...
its crazy how your family can make you feel bad about something sooo beautiful....

my curls wld alwys come back...evn tho my mom relaxed it...until one day she came home with a maximum strength dr.miracles relaxer...i told her...i had enough. i wasnt gonna let her relax my hair away.

I can definitely relate to what you are feeling. I am 14 going on 15 and i definitely understand how annoying the wait is but you just have to wait or bc .Patience is key z, so that you can grow healthy curls. Its still astonishing to me what grows out of my head because we are taught to hate our hair :sad1:. Styles that really helped me are braidouts. That is my signature style . It will help blend the different textures so that you dont look a hot mess. You can also do a bantu knot out and they kind of produce the same result as using a curling iron. I hope i helped :flower:

Yes, I agree with transitiongrachel that you have to try and be patient. The type of styles she mentioned (i.e. Bantu knot out, twist outs, etc.) should help with the two textures not being so noticeable.

There are plenty of YouTube videos that will show "How to..." Some of the people with my personal favorite "how to" hair videos are actually posted on my blog...

    Hope this helps!

There is a sticky on the 4B thread called the guide to basic haircare for newbies. I learned a lot of information about products for haircare from this thread.

ITA with HomeGrownHairGirl about the Youtube tutorials. Curlychronicles has some really easy tutorials on braidouts and twistouts. Also check out tightlycurly.com. Terri talks about her experience when she was younger and her hair was also pressed and brushedout. She also lists products which can help you with your curls.

Well, there isn't exactly a "cure all" product. I wish there was. You kind of just have to find out by trial and error. What works for one person, doesn't necessarily work for another.

A lot of people use curling creams or gels to do transitional/natural styles. Some use Miss Jessie's. Some consider their products to be over-rated. In my opinion, they do have good styling tutorials. I'm on a tight budget so I haven't tried Miss Jessie's yet. Considering ordering the 2 oz. jars though b/c they are fairly inexpensive.

Some of the various products I use that work for me and my current budget:

*Suave Professionals Humectant Conditioner (I used Nexxus Humectress for a long time; this basically has many of the same ingredients, except it's about half the price of the Nexxus.)

    *Pantene Nature Fusion

*Shea Butter (Can find this in mostly any beauty supply store; in various scents now even.)

    *Palmer's Olive Oil Formula

*Home-made glycerin spray w/tea tree oil ( You can use whatever you want to supplement. There are many "how to make..." videos on YouTube)

*Motions Weightless Clear Hairdress (Just a dab will do b/c if you use a TON it won't stay "weightless" for very long, lol)

*Biotin vitamins (cheap at Walmart, Target, etc.)

For twist outs I've used either of these (just a little on each twist so that the curls will hold longer):

    *Lottabody WrapCream

*Organic Root Stimulator Lock & Twist Gel

Mind you I don't use all these styling products at once :p; I alternate and/or use them intermittently.

Whatever you decide to use if you're trying a twist out or other style make sure your hair has some moisture in it. However, don't use ALOT of product or your hair will be greasy and weighed down. Then the curls will not hold well.

    Hope this helps!

Awww!!! I'm so sorry you had to go thru that! I would recommend having a friend corn roll your hair when its wet! It worked wonders for me when I was transitioning! Its a style that can last all week with proper care.

A product to make tranistioning EASIER!
Scissors. Think of it like this, your mixing dirty clothes with clean clothes, you can use all the perfum you want (hair product) but the dirty clothes (permed hair) will never be clean, will eventually get old, raggedy, and eventually start shredding/breaking(natural&permed hair). Don't waste your time. Transitioning for most is a :boxing: fight that relaxed hair will win!
