Picture thread attempt 4a, pen spring ladies

HajHaj Posts: 164Registered Users
Hey all, I was just wondering if there were any 4a pen spring diameter ladies out there with long hair that wouldn't mind posting some pictures. I've only seen two women that I think have this hair type with long hair. But their coils may actually be a bit bigger than pen spring/coffee stirrer size. I think it would give many women with this type of hair some well needed hairspiration. So whadaya say? Post some pics ladies? Ya never know it could inspire someone else who perms to go natural. Come on be down for the cause. lol:salut: :afro:

This girl was one of my hair inspirations. She documented her natural journey very well.

Turner girl has a looser curl also. But texture wise I'd say that both Velvet and Turner girl's hair is similar to mine. Thanks for posting Lynnery.

That is very subjective isn't it? When you consider the shrinkage that is inherent to this hair type. I guess I mean someone with a BAA. Or apl or bsl when strectched.

Not all of my hair is pen spring, nor is it all the same length. But I think it's close enough to your request. For your reference, my hair stretches out to between chin and armpit length and in general the kink/coil loosens from crown to nape. So the curls you describe are on the top of my head front and center.

Yeah Rustic Beauty is actually one of the two that I've seen with coily pen spring long hair. She's like my hair idol. I don't know what I was thinking. I was like really looking at her coils one day and was thinking hmm what if those aren't really pen spring. But I just checked out the vid you just posted and I'm for sure that we are basically hair twins. lol Thanks naturellewonder. Rustic Beauty is definitely a great inspiration. I was watching one of her videos the day that I decided to just go in the bathroom with my scissors and hack all my permed ends off.

Ah, thanks. I do think there is need for this thread, checking out fotkis I see a lot of people who are confused about what coffee stirrer curls 4A looks like.

    3226513957_14eae59ace.jpg

It's very tiny and I always see curlies of a much larger diameter say they are coffee stirrer size. I mean it is confusing, most of my curls are somewhere in between pencil and the tinyness of that as are most people. But finding a true coffee stirrer is hard. Lenny Kravitz is one:
    lenny-kravitz-1.jpg

Well if the person doesn't have to have ALL coffee stirrer curls, I could post in a year or so. My pen spring curls are only on my canopy.

BBDoll would be number 2.:laughing1: I'm guessing that this hair type is either very rare or when people that have it start feeling their new growth they get scared. When I was growing my hair out a couple of months before i cut it my aunt had felt my hair and she said that my hair felt like it had knots in it. What she was feeling where the itty bitty coils.

Ne way. Thank you Naturellewonder. Rustic Beauty and BeautifulBrownBabyDoll are two very inspirational natural women. And who ever doesn't know about them needs to click on those links you posted ASAP.

Will you tell these ladies Kinky Keeper. I luv my sistas, but come on ladies, some of you can clearly fit a magic marker between your curls and you're posting pics in the pen spring thread. Not a good look ladies. lol Not a good look. lol:laughing2:

Wow I had no idea Lenny had coils. I thought was more the cloud of soft fluffy goodness type. Either way got damn that men's sex appeal is out of this world.:love1:

And please do post pics of your coiled locks Kinky keeper. All of mine aren't pen spring either. Some or more like eye liner pencil diameter. I doubt a person exists with coils that uniform. lol

I don't think it's rare. I have a long list of Fotki's bookmarked that showcase this curl pattern. However, most are new naturals (including me) and have not yet been on their natural journey long enough to acheive BSL+ yet. It takes about 3 years from a person's last relaxer to gain the 12-15 inches required to hit APL-BSL (barring setbacks, breakage, and trims). My guess and hope is that in 2-3 years these women will remain natural and have huge puffs and "long" hair when stretched.

Domenique on Fotki closed her account but had MBL-WL stretched coils. CMW45 and Vibrantthing (both on Fotki) are at APL stretched and growing towards BSL. TruBlu on (BHM) is BSL. Oooop2 (Fotki) is BSL with 4A also. Celeigh (?) on LCHF is BSL too. They're definitley out there.

You're right naturellewonder. I suppose the more black women become natural the more we'll see of this hair type. Thanks again for posting about all of these inspiring ladies. Now I'm gonna have to go and start hawking some fotki accounts. lol

Hmmm, ok, then if that is the case, then I have gotten confused. I guess that's why I mostly lurk around here because I think my hair has all kinds of different curl sizes. What do you all think?

I thought 4A ranged from coffee stirrer to pen springs to pencil. This particular thread was for the pen spring ladies but 4A can range in size. I think Sandy Coils has some 4A just like BeautifulBrownBabyDoll does. Sandy Coils your hair is BEAUTIFUL.

I wouldn't say that the 4a hair type only encompasses coffee stirrer sized curls. But I think once you're curls get to the size of like a magic marker you're stepping into the 3's category.
