Straightening Hair before highlights??

I'm getting my hair highlighted Friday, with a base color. My usual stylist is doing my hair, he's colored my hair before, but not since I've been a curly girl. He told me to blow my hair out before getting it done.
Is this normal for getting curly hair highlighted?

I trust him with my hair, I'm just nervous I guess.
Please share your highlighting experiences. Did you have to blow dry or straighten before getting yours done?

I have 3c/4a hair if it matters, LOL.

I've never had anyone tell me to straighten my hair for highlights. Most stylists want to see your hair so that they know which sections to pick out for the 'lites.
