These base coats supposedly even out nail ridges.

This top coat is supposedly a UV filter.

These length and/or strength treatments, well, the name supposedly says it all.

How true do you think the company's claims AND the customer ratings are for these products?

Are base coat, top coat & strengtheners necessary steps for me?

I like my nails just past fingertip length. They chip, split & peel when longer, & mess me up on the keyboard.

I don't wear gloves when doing house, office, garden or lawn work.

I've heard or read to not use cuticle removers in any shape or form, so I'll stay away from those things. I'll do my darnedest to stop chewing my cuticles til they bleed.

Since I still don't want to do color on my fingernails, I think the Pearl Shine looks interesting.

My mom sells Avon, so I've been slowly collecting their nail stuff as it goes on sale. I've got the base and top coats and they're pretty nice. I've never tried the strengthening stuff, since my nails are in good shape. My mom has it, since she has a permanently cracked nail and she likes keeping clear polish on it.

I usually just do the base and top coat, with color in between if I'm feeling girly. Lately, I've just been buffing my nails and calling it a day since I bang up my polish too fast. I can ruin a pro manicure in a day. But I like their polishes so far.

The brightener looks interesting. The reviews on the site are usually decent, but I do believe that Avon filters them, so who knows. But when they're on sale like they are, I feel a little more free to grab some extras.

Do you have ridges that the base coat fills in?

I should have mentioned that I do like color on my toenails now. After all, I'm not doing all the noted work with my feet!

Ah, so you don't have time to notice if the UV filter top coat works. I understand. Maybe someone else will chime in about this stuff.

I always thought base coats and top coats were only necessary when wearing colored polish. I also understood that the UV filters were good when doing french manicures. Helps to keep the white from turning yellow in the sun.

I am like you. I try to keep them just past the fingertips and I don't wear gloves for anything even though you should. I don't mess much with the cuticles other than every once in awhile I do one of those manicure in a jar scrubs (got it at Bath and Body Works) and occassionally I do a cuticle remover gel if they look really bad (I use a Sally Hansen version). Mostly I just buff because I can't keep polish on for anything.

On the Nail Brightener, I bought the Sally Hansen version. It's not bad. When I take the polish off my toes, I will use it for a few days to help brighten them back up from the staining of the polish. If you use a base coat you are supposed to get less staining from polish but frankly, I am too lazy to mess with it.

The pearl shine looks cool but I think I would chip it too although it would be less obvious.

I usually buff out the ridges on my nails, so it doesn't do much for me in that way.

I could & should buff out my ridges. I have some deep ones on my big toes.
