Master Serum with Seamollient
In another thread, helloitsio listed this combo from another board:
"I made up a lovely batch of leave-in conditioner using seamollient, and have used this for the last week with great success. It hasn't been humid enough to see how it controls the frizzies, but it sure does keep curls well defined and just makes my hair "stand up" better.
I have very thick, spirally curls. [Think of that greek actress in CSI and Providence, my hair looks just like hers] - Naturally curly hair tends to run dry; I can't claim how this will work on oily hair, but if you substitute jojoba for the avocado oil, it may be more suitable.
Master Serum: This can be used as a base for after hair treatments and after shower moisturizing.
In a 4 oz. amber glass bottle with a pump dispenser combine the following ingredients:
1 oz. seamollient
1 oz. organic aloe vera gel
1 oz. rose geranium hydrosol
.5 oz. avocado oil
.5 oz. camellia oil
10 drops suprapein [preservative]
10 drops ylang ylang oil
Shake thoroughly before each use!
Leave in Hair serum:
Use a 1 oz. glass tub with lid [I used an old EpidermxII jar]
Fill the 1 oz. jar half way with seamollient, then fill it nearly to the top [be sure to leave some room!] with JB toner or rose-geranium hydrosol. Stir thoroughly with a wooden or plastic spoon. Now add 4 pumps of the master serum and mix again until blended. The suprapein can be rather strong - if the scent is still not quite what you like, add a couple drops of lavendar or geranium EO.
After shower and other hair treatments, I place a little bit of this treatment in the palms of my hands and distribute it through damp hair, then scrunch the curls. My curls are left defined, soft, and somehow my hair seems to "stand" up much better. I'll let you all know how this is still working after a month!"
I did this today using Lemongrass hydrosol and Cosmosil CQ as my preservative--halved the oils because of the humidity/high dewpoints. It's a common contact lens solution preservative, so I was hoping I wouldn't be allergic (had to stop wearing lens because of issues.) I mixed up a double batch of the Master Serum (I had an empty 8oz pump bottle.) I did a rinse out, the LI serum and a little Goddess Glaze. My hair dried beautifully. It's another rainy day with dewpoints already in the low 60's. I have a little surface frizz--but that's a given these days. Don't know how it will hold up.

I realized after closer examination of your recipe that I don't have most of the ingredients nor are they readily available. I can get avocado oil but it cost over $20 a bottle. OUCH

Because the ingredients are not inexpensive, I posted it in my samples--so people could try it out before ordering what they would need to make it. I have gotten good results when I've used it. I need to rotate products and am always looking for something that uses natural ingredients (I did use synthetic preservative in the master serum) so this is another good one to have in my arsenal. What can I say, I'm just a product strumpet--at least I admit it.
Dewpoint is 60. Went to health club and worked out--and hair looks the same as when I left.

You said strumpet. :laughing6:
Sounds promising though. I might have to try when I start to run low on my current supplies.

April, 08, there was a whole thread about this. (couldn't find it quickly.) I had been happily going along for a few months reporting good results--when I had my first encounter with [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Kinky-Curly-Curling-Custard-p-778.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=kinkycurly-curling-custard]KCCC[/buylink]. My hair was so incredible that day, I couldn't stop looking and touching. I felt like a real wh*re--saying such great things about a product (turns out I was allergic to it with repeated use) and was ready to throw it over for a new love with no guilt what so ever. So I started a thread about being a "product lady of the evening." Someone came up with strumpet--and it just stuck with me! Now I'll have to search out that thread.

I'm specifically looking for these four ingredients:
1 oz. rose geranium hydrosol
.5 oz. camellia oil
10 drops suprapein [preservative]
10 drops ylang ylang oil
-TIA, Beth
btw...this stuff really is fabulous! I use it after AOHR for leave-in and before AOB5.

I should also add that I didn't use ylang/ylang--I don't have that. I used other EOs that I like.

If you don't want to buy everything, I could probably work something out with you. Make the master serum and all you'd need is hydrosol??? I have tons of SeaMollient.

What exactly does the serum do, or what is it for? Is it for moisture and frizz control? Now you all have me curious..lol. I may have to hook up with Kathymack
If you look at post #20 from Helloitsio what, I think, was the first Seamollient thread, it has the most information (I quoted some of it in this thread.) http://www.naturallycurly.com/curltalk/showthread.php?t=75921&highlight=Seamollient
The originator of the serum used it to make a leave in. She was living in a very dry climate and said it provided moisture and curl definition. I haven't used it for a while (tomorrow, I promise) because the last of the leave in went. I just used the last of my current batch of Master Serum to mix up a few ounces of leave in and wanted it to "mix," so didn't use it today.
Because I use synthetic (as called for) preservative, it should last a long time. I think the shelf life of the SeaMollient is two years--Del posted about this back in one of the original threads.
I bought some Tinisan and Potassium Sorbate (natural preservatives) but haven't done anything with them yet. Will need to "study" use before I try them.
