Pride & Prejudice & Zombies

Has anyone else read this? I am about a third of the way through right now, and I am really enjoying it.

I love the interplay of Austen and zombies, lol.

I also love that Elizabeth still kicks ass, but this time more literally.

I've requested it from the library, and can't wait to get it. Thanks for starting this thread; I'm going to check on it's availability again

I browsed the book at a cool indie bookstore I like (one of the few left). I was seriously laughing my head off at the title and the concept. But money was tight that day, and I had this weird theory that maybe the title and concept were the best part -- like the book itself had nowhere to go but down from there? (if you get what I mean)

But you're saying the book itself is fun? Perhaps I will get it next time, or order from the library.

I mean, c'mon: Jane Austen + zombies. What's not to love about that????

It is fun. It's big chunks of the original with the zombie elements added in.

There is even a tongue in cheek section in the end that has those bookgroup questions, and they crack me up.

Oh, and in a spoilerish moment, Lady Catherine has ninjas. Ninjas! Zombies and ninjas and P&P - what's not to love?

It could have turned into a joke, and perhaps it sort of is. But, it is really nicely done so far.

    1) When zombies attack the party at Netherfield, is it merely human flesh they crave? What deeper hunger might they be seeking to satisfy? Discuss.

    2) What does Lady Catherine's relationship with the Ninjas suggest about the larger social class system of the time?

    3) If Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy had met in a different era (for example: the Victorian Age, World War II, etc.), and if they had encountered Vampires rather than zombies, how might their story have ended differently?

I bought this book for my friend for her birthday - she's a bit quirky so I thought she'd enjoy it!! Maybe I should ask to borrow it once she's done?

Of course my local library doesn't have it. Of course the closest library that DOES have it is 20+ miles away. Oh how I miss the greater LA area libraries.

What I find interesting is that a search for the book on amazon pulled up other classics that have zombies or vampires thrown in - The War of the Worlds Plus Blood, Guts and Zombies, Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and Zombie Jim: Mark Twain's Classic with Crazy Zombie Goodness, and Mr. Darcy, Vampyre.

ETA: I just "looked inside" the book on Amazon and the first page had me laughing. Thanks RCC for this thread! I never would have thought of checking it out.

I'm a few chapters in and loving it. Too bad I have the tendency to read 3 books at a time...we'll see how long until I finish it. I'll report back when done.

Helloitsio I'll be happy to send it to you when I finish if you'd like.

Thanks for the offer Jess but I purchased the book at Target just two days after the thread! Lol!

Like you, I've got the habit of reading two to three books at the same time.

I've never read the original Pride and Prejudice..it scares me lol. Do you think this version will be an easier read and help me with the actual Pride and Prejudice? I'm looking for this on my next trip to Half Priced Books.

Some the text in zombies is direct from P&P, so it should help.

The language style is similar, but with sexual innuendos added, lol.

I heard the opposite....but I guess I'll have to start reading to find out lol. Also, is there a compiled list of all the mash-ups? I think after Sookie I'm going to start on these...

I loved the Vampire Hunter :) genius! Not as familiar with the other classics so not sure I would appreciate the mash ups, but loved the history of Lincol and the Civil War stuff :)

First off, I do want to read this and secondly, One of the books you mentioned "War of the Worlds Plus Blood, Guts, and Zombies" is written by a guy I went to school with.

    Cracks me!!
