My new handmade hair sticks!

I've been looking for some special hair accessories for awhile, since my hair is quite long now and I like to wear it up a lot (great for those not-so-good second and third hair days!). I went browsing on the longhaircommunity site a few months ago and found mention of a seller who makes beautiful hand-carved wooden hair sticks, and I found a few other sellers who make really nice hair accessories. I finally broke down and ordered some hair sticks from her:

/home/leaving?target=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.etsy.com%2Fshop.php%3Fuser_id%3D5341744%26amp%3Bsection_id%3D5338585" class="Popup

and they arrived last week. I love them! :love5: She was great to work with, very helpful and friendly. You can see in that link the sticks she has for sale right now, but also check "other items" to see the ones that she's already sold, to see the full range of styles and materials. You can order the wood and style you want, adding an inlay or a bead, etc. Eventually I'll try to post pix of my hair with the sticks. I like how they look with different styles I'm trying and they hold well and are comfortable. Even one stick will hold a lot of hair, but with a pair, I can do more styles.

This is another etsy seller I found with really pretty hair stuff -- one of these days I'd like to order a fork from them:

When I searched, I found quite a few craftspeople on etsy making lovely and unusual forks, combs, sticks, slides, of wood and metal. Something new for the PJs to think about! :D

I like using hairsticks too. It's easy once you get the hang of it.

I loved those purple striped ones in the first link!

I loved those purple striped ones in the first link!

They're mine, rcc - all mine! muwhahahahaaaa

I looked at the link was going to post how much I loved those ones when I saw your post.

    They're all beautiful, rozetta.

I just started getting into hair sticks over the winter. I find them much easier than updo's with bobby pins. Just haven't been able to find any nice ones around here. I tend to buy nice chopsticks.

Yeah, I love those purple ones, too. You two ladies can duke it out -- or ask if she can make another pair. If she has the wood, she'll do it, I'm sure. There's a pair in the "sold" section of twisted ebony and maple? (IIRC) sticks that I love -- lots of the twisted ones are really nifty. She has such a variety of beautiful woods to work with.

Whatsercurl, hope I haven't given you too much temptation! But I've never found nice hair sticks on the ground. I wanted something special, handmade and not plastic, and a step up from the chopsticks I've always used (although some of them are pretty nice), so etsy really is a help.

I find I like the sticks for some styles, but I also use my bobbypins and some large faux tortoise plastic hair pins for other do's. I have a copy of the Strictly Curls book and am trying more of those styles, and some require bobbypins. But so far my best updos use the sticks.

    Thanks rozetta

I may have to see if she ships to Canada. Because any of them would be gorgeous for lazy hazy days of summer. :glasses1:

I looove Baerreis forks! I have 6 of them. I have a small collection of quality sticks, forks and flexi-8's that I loooove :love1:. I don't have any from the other etsy link, but they are beautiful. I would like to see pics of them in your hair when you can. Thanks. :)

I have ordered more than a few things from the second etsy seller you listed and have been completely satisfied with everything!

I like that they make the sticks in different colors and lengths.

These are the only sticks/forks that have ever worked for my hair! :)

I love Jessicurl HCC, Jessicurl Too Shea, KCKT, KCCC, CK and HESMU...but it took a LOT of trial error to get to these products that consistently work for ME.

Well, I'm really loving them. They hold my hair very securely, they're light weight, and they're more comfortable than using pins or clips. I love that even if I have a bad hair day with messy wimpy curls that just won't hang right, I can do a simple updo very easily and it will look really nice. I did an oily pre-poo last night thinking I'd wash my hair this morning, but I had to rush out suddenly, so I put my hair up with beetnik's sticks, and it looked quite passable!

I ordered one pair from her that's a beautiful reddish-toned wood with three bands of turquoise inlay around the top. It was really hard to choose from the different wood and inlays, but I thought this mix would look good in my hair. I know eventually I'm going to order a pair of her spirally twisted sticks . . .

Curlykey, I'm terrible at taking hair pictures, but I'll try to do some one of these days! In the meantime--I'd love to see YOUR hair with your forks or sticks!

Lol, look at all lusting over the purple sticks.

It's about summer time, and I need to dig mine out! I have a fork around here somewhere too.
