Most of the following conditioners can be purchased at a drugstore or a beauty supply store like Ulta. However, those that can only be purchased at a healthfood store have been marked. Please note that I haven't tried all of the conditioners. This list was especially made for newbies who are looking for cheap CG products. If I have missed a conditioner or made a mistake, please tell me!

Thank you for that wonderful list! I'm lucky. I purchased three items so far and they are on the list. I'm sure that will give many of us newbies a place to start. :notworthy:

BTW -- how long did it take you to compose that list and then type it? :happy3:

Ooh, and you can add Aussie 3MM - it's about $4, so it definitely fits here. :)

Haha, it's fine. I just changed my username so it was a little more original. I needed to make that list for myself too, I'm always forgetting what drugstore conditioners are CG!

Oh yeah and it actually took maybe 40 minutes make that list. Most of them I knew about, and many brands have all CG conditioners, like Suave Naturals. I just had to get the names of each conditioner and read the ingredient lists to make sure they didn't have protein. I'm a fast reader, which helps too!

Haha okay. Although with some of the conditioners I didn't need to check if it had protein or not, like Suave Aloe and Waterlilly because I already knew it didn't.

Then, I'm sure that made it easier.

Oh, & I have a q. So bis-amodimethicone IS water soluble? Or is it like amodimethicone in that it's not water-soluble, but comes out easily? I've been wondering.

I'll add a couple more to this list --

Activate -- I really like this. It's still on the shelves at Rite-Aid and Target for $7 in my town, although we keep hearing that they're hiking the price up to something like $20 !!!

Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose CO. It's available at health food stores and I paid $9.95 for it last week, so it's right on the cusp, but it's so rich and concentrated (and smells so good) that I think it'll last a long time & is worth the $.
2-something? Coarse, medium underneath. Mid-back. On CG since 5/9/07.
Washing COs: VO5 Blackberry, Suave Cherry
Detangle and leave-in: Sally's GVP Conditioning Balm -- I found my HG CO!
    Seal with camellia oil
    Leave-in: Aura cherry almond
    Gels: Homemade FSG, Eco-styler
Plus: SOTC or smooth with camellia oil, JC Nourish & Shine
    Homemade food-based DTs
    RC color

Back to Basics Pommegranate Peach is about $10. But I've found it at flea markets for $7, and Ulta frequently has coupons so you can get it for liek $6.50 with coupons.
    3b (I think!)
HGs - Suave Nexxus Knockoff, Jessicurl Weekly DT, L'Oreal Out of Bed, HESMU.

I went to the drugstore today, as I want to try to be CG again, and I have, well two questions.

I purchased the Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Reconstructor (Original) to use as a leave-in from reading the threads. I see the list that one way street so thoughtfully put together for us states that this product has simethicone in it, which I do see now that I have the product and a magnifying glass in my hand. :laughing9:

The ~ after it on the list indicates that this is "modified CG," and is a water soluble cone. I did try reading the thread on quats and -cones and was totally confused.

My question is, is this product CG friendly? How do you get a water soluble cone out of your hair? I know this sounds like a dumb question, but I've had some hair-raising experiences lately, so I'm trying to be really careful.

Thanks in advance, once again, to the chemically inclined! :angel9:

    Ingredient update (I think....)

Today I picked up VO5 Silky Experiences Champagne Kiss with silk protein Moisturizing Conditioner. I noticed V05 has recently re-designed their bottles, so maybe the ingredients also? I will list them:

Water, Cetyl Alchol, Cetrimonium Chloride, Stearalkonium Chloride, Stearyl Alcohol, Steareth-21, Glyceryl Stearate, Hydrolyzed Silk, Tocopheryl Acetate, Biotin, Niacinamide, Polysorbate 20, Ascorbic Acid, Panthenol, DMDM Hydantoin, Disodium EDTA, Fragrance (Parfum), Red 33 (CI 17200), Yellow 10 (CI 47005)

I guess if I have a sensitivity to Protein, I picked the wrong one, huh?
    Thanks for any input. :binky:

Wow! One way street thanks so much for this list. All of these are protein free? I would love to try that Back To Basics Pommegranate. I'm adding this one to my wish list. :bounce:
3c-4a; Protein Sensitive(forms of wheat, keratin, soy and anything "hydrolyzed"). My hair hates coconut oil and jojoba oil(sometimes).

OOOPS! :colors: I just read (in a thread about Aussie 3MM) a post by Yismet that said simethicone is not a -cone, but a preservative, and that it is completely CG. Sorry to have been redundant.

Lustrasilk Cholesterol's in the Olive Oil and Shea Butter versions are CG (other versions have mineral oil). They come in a 20 oz container and cost $1.50 -$4:

    Shea Butter

Ingredients: Water, Stearamidopropyl, Dimethylamine, Stearyl Alcohol, Cetyl alcohol, Shea butter MangoSeed Butter, Cholesterol, Soybean Oil, Safflower Oil,Wheat GermOil, aloe VeraExtract, Fragrance, Vitamin E, Methyl Paraben Propyl Paraben, Phosphoric Acid Sodium Chloride DMDM Hydantoin, Disodium EDTA, Yellow #5, Yellow #6

Also Elasta QP Intense Conditioner. I don't personally like it, but a few people on here were comparing it to Elucence. It's got protein also. It should be a little over $3.

Water, Cetyl Alcohol, Quaternium-18, Hydrolyzed Silk protien, Squalene, Centrimonium Bromide, Stearyl Alcohol, Extracts of chamomile, nettle, birch, rosemary, coltsfoot, horsetail, lemon balm, sage, horse chestnut, guar hydropropyltrimonium chloride, methylparaben, imidazolidinyl urea, benzophenone 4, fragrance, fd&c yellow #5

Activate has reduced its price to 6.99 a bottle and it has protein. I bought the Suave Naturals Toasted Vanilla and Sugar. I bought this set (shampoo and condish) the other day and I like it. The only thing I'm not sure of is that Silk Powder is listed is that protein? I'm not entirely sure...

The Suave natural coconut poo has ALS in it... bad! Is this in the Vanilla/Sugar one, too?

Yes is does I know bad bad me. But I really have tried to not poo and my water is so hard it just kills my hair and it falls out like crazy if I don't use SLS or ALS. Anyway back to my Silk Powder question I assume that the Silk Powder isn't protein but I'm not 100% sure anyone know?

if you are near a Big Lots, check to see if they have Activate Shampoo. It is a blue bottle....now on sale for $1.50.

A lot of curlies like it. [

Also, curlies seem to like Cream of Nature...can't recall which bottle. I didn't like it.

Hmm...i can't think of any more shampoos...well not cheap ones.
