Oils

I've seen several people on here mention oils, either that they oil their hair, or that they use oil to SOTC. I was wondering, what sorts of oils do you use, and how do you use them? I bought a small bottle of jojoba oil yesterday and SOTC with it, and it worked pretty well. It made my hands feel nice and soft too! What other oils are worth trying? Any suggestions welcome, I'm learning!

^^^^what she said. I LOVE LOVE LOVE castor oil. I use it to oil my scalp and the length of my hair. Im gonna take a wild guess and assume you don't oil your scalp nightly like I do. Castor oil is really thick and heavy so a little goes a long way. Most women on the board seem to prefer coconut oil. Just rubbing a dime size amount through dry hair helps keep frizz down, leaves hair soft, and shiny. Olive oil is another good oil to use if your into hot oil treatments. Warm it up, slather the oil over your hair and scalp, let it sit for 25-30 minutes and then wash out. You can also do this with coconut oil and still get good results.

Castor oil is popular, but the smell brings back bad memories for me. Nana used to give it to us. Let's just say none of us needed a colon cleasning.

Coconut oil is another popular HG around here. Avocado oil, walnut oil, grapeseed oil, hemp oil, olive oil, canola oil, jojoba oil, almond oil, and others. If you can eat it, you can put in on your head. You just have to try it to see what your hair likes and doesn't.

I like castor oil. It works well for my ends. It also makes my strands appear thicker & it softens my hair. I also add it to my summer leave-in mixture along w/ water, honey & coconut oil.

My hair seems to like jojoba oil, too.

I like Sapote oil, it is very moisturizing. I use it on damp/wet hair. Also liked the sample of Marula oil I tried.

Jamaican black castor oil, scrunched right over my conditioner, before I cold water rinse. My hair loves it. I use butters such as Hairveda Almond Glaze and Jane Carter N&S that way too, sometimes mixing with the castor oil in my hand. It's a great way to get the benefits of old-school grease without the greasiness.

I sometimes use a few drops of baobab oil in my dry hair. But my skin gets jealous -- it has decided that the baobab oil is only for it and won't share with my hair.

I LOVE coconut oil! It really help reduce frizz. I either use a little in the shower and rinse out, or use when my hair is dry to tame frizz.

I use coconut oil at night on my ends and canopy/top layer. This has really helped the dry texture of my hair since growing in my gray, especially the ends.

I too love coconut oil for my scalp. I also use raw shea oil and peppermint oil. I use the peppermint at night to massage my scalp. It definitely stimulates it before I wrap my hair and go to sleep, plus it smells good! I don't know if I can attribute the regrowth of my hairline strictly on the peppermint oil but I'm sure it didn't hurt!

I've used jojoba on my scalp frequently and I just bought coconut oil. Other than that I've added EVOO and Avocado Oil to the conditioners if it's super dry hair time.
