Newbie help. Type 2A-B hair

D-11D-11 Posts: 3Registered Users
Hi!
I'm new to this site and would love advice!
I was reading the hair types and I have characteristics of the 2-A hair (easy to become straight and easy to become curly) but my hair is not super thin. It's medium textured. What type would that make me?

I was using WEN Tea Tree and I liked it but it is too expensive. I want to either try the no poo method or
a poo and co method that will allow me to have 2nd day hair. I find that with many of the shampoo and conditioners, my hair gets really frizzy and I lose my curl. I also color my hair. :(

What do you suggest for washing, conditioning and products for best curl enhancement? (without silicones or sulfates)

Thank you so much for your help!

    D-11,

Welcome! I too am new, so I won't be able to offer as much advice as many of the vets here, but I can try to let ya in on what I know.

I to have wavy hair that I have been wearing straight for about 3 years. I noticed that it had become very dry and unhealthy, so I decided to go 'au-naturall'. I have been very happy with the results so far!

I am attempting the no poo method, so I am not shampooing at all. I am strictly a co-wash girl! You can check out my signature for the specific products, but I can tell you that I am LOVIN the JessiCurl products! I too was having frizz problems and as my hair is so think, I could never get anything to give me lasting hold! The [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Jessicurl-Rockin-Ringlets-Styling-Potion-p-100.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=jessicurl-rockin-ringlets]JC Rockin Ringlets[/buylink] and [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Jessicurl-Confident-Coils-Styling-Solution-p-116.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=jessicurl-confident-coils-styling-solution]Confident Coils[/buylink] with the Biosilk Rock Hard Gell are my faves right now! It makes for great curls and clumps, with little to no frizz, and I get great volume! I am a morning hair-doer, so I also keep the [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Jessicurl-Gelebration-Spray-p-101.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=jessicurl-gelebration-spray]JC [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Jessicurl-Gelebration-Spray-p-101.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=jessicurl-gelebration-spray]Gelebration[/buylink] Spray[/buylink] in my purse for touch-ups, and it is working great.

Another tip that works for me is the almighty scrunch! I live and die by the scrunch..well my hair style does anyway! If my scrunch is not right, then I can't get my hair to look right! I never use towels on my hair, only Curlease or t-shirts...and I scrunch to my hearts content, althought my magic number is 10! I scrunch eveything 10 times, by section, and it works great!

Remember that not every product works the same on every curly. What works for you might not work for someone else, so it is all trial and error! Just start out simple and then work your way up... HTH!

Welcome!! If you haven't read this yet, it's great for explaining the CG method in detail

As for products, if you want to start with something that's not very expensive there are some things you can find at drugstores.

For co-washing, the Suave naturals or VO5 conditioners are good. For a stronger condish a lot of people use L'Oreal Vive Pro Nutri Gloss for curly/wavy hair (it's hard to find though). And the Herbal Essences gels are all CG. Biosilk Rock Hard Gellee can be found in the salon aisle. It's very strong and has a hard hold, so I mix it with lighter gels.

I also like the Giovanni line which can be found in the natural care aisle at Target. There's a Tea Tree Triple Treat shampoo that's CG, 50:50 conditioner, and LA Naturals gel. Trader Joe's shampoos and conditioners are all CG and are inexpensive also.

For styling, icequeen method, plopping, and pixiecurl diffusing can help encourage curl. Do a search for those at the top of the page.
    Good luck starting CG! :toothy7:

Hi and welcome! These two pretty much covered it but I'll add a few tips too. Find wavies with hair like yours and "stalk" them. You can see in their signatures what products they use. Also read, read, read. There is tonsof info on this site and it can be very overwhelming but you'll get it. Again welcome :toothy7:

Thanks for the advice so far.
Any moisturizing curl enhancing co-washes or shampoo-condish?
My hair isn't really thick, nor thin, so I don't want anything to weigh my hair down or dry it out.
Ah! So overwhelming! But I suppose it's all research!

    D-11...

Now that I have reread your post, I think that we might have very similiar hair...what is your texture? I am definitely middle of the road. It is very thick but not coarse, so even though I have been here for a little while I am very interested to see what people say!
