Skin care/make up ingrediants??

Hi!
After learning so much about the different ingrediants in hair care products, I was wondering if there was any info on skin care ingredients?

Are there any ingredients companies use that are actually bad for skin, but maybe save them money or give temporary results?

I mean, Im not sure how much I really trust the beauty industry, but it doesnt stop me believing some of the claims they make, just in case they are true!! Would hate to miss out on some new cream that actually did do some magic transformation, turning me into a super model! But with all the crazy chemicals etc that go on our face these days, its got me a little worried! :confused4:

Any thoughts?

Personally I think that site is a little extreme. Some of it is valid, but some of it isn't as bad as it's made out to be. If I went by what they said, I wouldn't be able to use hardly anything. There are some thing that are bad in large quantities, or bad if ingested, but otherwise perfect fine and safe, that they label as not ok. That seems excessive to me.

I do think there are things to be careful of out there. I think one of the larger problems with the beauty industry these days is that they'll take an ingredient that does work and does give you results and put it in a product in a quantity that can't possibly help or will be used in a way that makes the ingredient useless. SA, for example. The way they put it in most cleansers, it's washed down the drain before it can do any good. SA is a good ingredient, and can be very helpful, but if it's only on your face for a minute while you're washing, it's useless.

One of the other problems I see in the commercial beauty industry is that they don't take the time to educate consumers on how different ingredients work. That would dry up their business, though, I guess-- people product surfing from one thing to another after two months of using one thing only to find it no longer "working" (when it never really worked in the first place) is probably a huge source of income for the beauty industry.
"And politically correct is the worst term, not just because it’s dismissive, but because it narrows down the whole social justice spectrum to this idea that it’s about being polite instead of about dismantling the oppressive social structure of power.
Fun Fact: When you actively avoid being “PC,” you’re not being forward-thinking or unique. You’re buying into systems of oppression that have existed since before you were even born, and you’re keeping those systems in place."
    Stolen.

I look for these products in Everything now! And it is hard to filter them all out but if we can even "reduce" our exposure just a little bit - it's better than nothing!
