Punditry

I was wondering what everyone here thought about these pundits on TV - mostly, but not all, on FOX News. You know, the ones who say that fascism and tyranny and communism (depending on what week it is) are creeping along in the United States. The ones who freak out about how our guns are being taken away (even though they aren't), and tell us about the existence of things like FEMA concentration camps (for which there is no evidence by the way). The ones who push disturbed people to commit horrible crimes (yes, Richard Poplawski posted Glenn Beck videos to his white supremacists website to warn people about the new "police state").

And Beck, well, I've put up with the likes of him for a while and just ignored the theatrics. But when I see a video like this, I just have to say something. The worst thing about it is that most of his accusations are exaggerations at worst, lies at best.

I think this lying and fearmongering is really hurting our country. It's not about silencing an opposing point of view, it's about delivering the NEWS to people in a way that doesn't distort the facts and freak people out. I believe reporting of this kind is related to the uptick in gun violence in America...

I don't like the hysterical edge that many so-called pundits adopt, but I can't agree that it's due to an uptick in handgun violence. Historically, the USA has always had extremist movements.......it's only now, with electronic media reaching further than print did, that we're seeing it in full flower.

ITA agree about its overall absurdity, however.

So, Conservative pundits like Glenn Beck are responsible for the increase in gun violence? And Glenn Beck is responsible for a nut like Poplawski?? :goofy:

    Oh, you didn't know? ;-)

I'm always amazed that when pundits are discussed it's always conservatives. Apparently, people have few (if any) issues with liberal or left leaning punditry. How about discussing the punditry that MSNBC is trying to pass off as news.

I agree with you Scarlet. However, I was more shocked at the OP's statement that Glenn Beck is responsible for a nutcase:
The ones who push disturbed people to commit horrible crimes (yes, Richard Poplawski posted Glenn Beck videos to his white supremacists website to warn people about the new "police state").

Yeah, but how do you even respond to that, and why would you want to even allow yourself to be put in a position to have to defend yourself (or your viewpoint) against something so ridiculous? Sick people b a s t a r d ize messages all the time. It's not reflective of anything but their own sick minds.

Agree totally. And trust me, I have no intention of engaging the OP.

I guess by the OP's logic, we can blame Jodie Foster for John Hinckley's assassination attempt of President Reagan!?! :confused4:

Did Glenn Beck pretend to douse President Obama with gas and set him afire?
