No coffee for 6 days - Update in thread

I usually drink 20 oz of fresh brewed half-decaf in the a.m. Was trying to gradually dial it down to nocaf with no success. I did a yoga/hiking weekend this past weekend and stopped drinking coffee. No milk either. Felt okay. I put some half-and-half in my tea and noticed a not so good reaction so I'm going to go off the milk too or try switching to soymilk. So far I have ditched the Splenda and artificial sweeteners, sugar, coffee and now milk. Yea me! Splenda was as tough as quitting ciggies!

Update - switched to almond milk. I used it in my oatmeal - yum!

Try drinking green tea, it might help a little with the caffeine withdrawals.

I was seriously ready to have a cup of coffee today. I tried ibuprofen, but it didn't even touch the pain. The headache was turning hemi-facial which for me is a precursor to a migraine. I had some yerba mate teabags and work and I made a large cup of tea. It did the trick! Yerba mate contains caffeine equivalent to a 1/4 cup of coffee. I bought some for home and I'll have it in the a.m.

yea it is scientifically proven that milk casein proteins nullify the antioxidents in green tea. so skip the nilk. the green tea helps heart health i think by opening up arteries. and it is cumulative, so to drink it everyday will improve the arteries almost like exercise continues to make health better. but if you are trying to cut out caffeine, well green teahas caffeine. not sure about that.

Finally! No more headaches. Maybe I can dial down the yerba mate. I eliminated milk too. I'm using almond milk, not in my tea; in my oatmeal.

I'm still off coffee. I had a cup of full decaf a couple of weeks ago and it was pretty nasty. I am drinking tea with caffeine.

And guess what? I no longer have to use concealer on my eyes! I used to have darkness on the inside by the nose and had to use concealers. No more dark circles!

You are a stronger woman than I, SBB.

But that undeye circle thing is intriguing, I must say.

I keep meaning to try almond milk — sounds yummy.

I am lactose intolerant and I currently drink rice milk as a sub. I try to avoid too much soy [and I'm not too crazy about the taste of soy anyway].

Almond milk also seems like a great alternative because of the protein content. Rice milk is really high in carbs. I do *not* need more of those!

What brand do you get, SBB?

Not to throw any cold water on your terrific success but why exactly are you giving up coffee? The latest I've read is that it isn't good for some people with acid reflux but isn't harmful in moderation and in fact may have a very small beneficial effect in preventing certain types of cancers since it has antioxidants. I'm not selling coffee lol.

I love all the Curl Junkie products. Still experimenting with gels and curl creams. Still hoping for 2nd day hair....

Mostly to renew my energy and because I was seriously dependent on just that one 20 oz half-decaf I had per day. Benefits:
    - I became less dehydrated
    - Constipation lessened
    - Skin darkening around eyes that I attributed to aging went away
    - I'm not dragging azz as much in the a.m. and it's easier to go to bed at night. I never had sleep trouble, just trouble turning off the light and sleeping.

I still consume caffeine via yerba mate and Scottish breakfast tea.

Congrats on ditching coffee SBB! I know it takes a lot of strength.

I have a love/hate relationship with coffee, because of jitters and effect on teeth and feeling like an addict (that explains hate; love is more obvious). My own personal take is to give up coffee in spring/summer when it doesn't feel good or connect with the seasons and then drink it, in moderation (so 2 cups max a day) in fall/winter. So far that seems to be working for the past year. I do drink black, green, white and herbal teas year round.
