Rudee - You were right!!!

You told me months ago I should try HESMU gel. Well believe it or not I couldn't find it for the longest time. So I ended up trying the HESMU spray gel - meh. Then I tried the HESMU mousse - ugh.

A couple of weeks ago I found the HESMU gel - yay! You were SOOOOO right! I love it!! When I first put it on I thought it would leave my hair stringy but it scrunches out so soft with amazing hold. In fact, in my current avatar, I'm just using it and GLI.

Yesterday, I went to the gym and I had HEBE in my bag. After a quick spritz, I smoothed and scrunched some of it in. No no no - nothing like the SMU.

Thanks for the recommendation. :D

    The pic looks STUNNING!

I love this gel. People I have recommended it to are hesitant - I guess it isnt high end or hyped enough. I admit to having it for MONTHS before I tried it. But, for me, it has been consistant HG all winter. I am SOOOO curious to see if that will carryover to summer....

Del, yer hair is coarser than mine. Also, I dont need a hard hold or my hair looks TOO curly. I am even wondering if last summers hg gel (BRHG) will be too much for me know that my curls have emerged....

A couple of weeks ago I found the HESMU gel - yay! You were SOOOOO right! I love it!!

Whatsercurl, how would you compare the hold to BRHG? I've tried HESMU spray and just couldn't get the hang of using a spray gel, and it seemed really sticky, too. I use HEBE and HETT, I like them but they don't have enough hold for me. I usually get really nice clumps with BE and more spirals with TT. I almost never see the SMU gel anywhere (and it's hard for me to find BE, too) for some reason. Walgreens always has the mousses and the sprays but TT is the only HE gel in a tube that I see regularly unless I can get to Target.
I'm trying to find an affordable BRHG replacement; I was going to try the two spiking gels (Sally's and drugstore) that people have rec'd next, but maybe SMU is the gel for me?
2-something? Coarse, medium underneath. Mid-back. On CG since 5/9/07.
Washing COs: VO5 Blackberry, Suave Cherry
Detangle and leave-in: Sally's GVP Conditioning Balm -- I found my HG CO!

    Gels: Homemade FSG, Eco-styler
Plus: SOTC or smooth with camellia oil, JC Nourish & Shine
    Homemade food-based DTs

    Is HESMU CG friendly?
  • whatsercurlwhatsercurl Posts: 4,049Registered Users
rozettastone (cool name by the way) - I definitely prefer it to BRHG. BRHG can leave my hair stringy and not scrunch out the whole way if I use too much. I haven't OD'd on this stuff yet and it always scrunches out soft. I find it really has an amazing hold for something that does seem so soft after I SOTC.

purplecurls - I've been CG for almost two years and only use CG products.

Yes, thanks, rudeechick! I too took your recommendation. I will admit, I was expecting not to have to SOTC, but I did and it looks good! About the same for the more expensive products!

Del2c, my sis has wavy hair similiar to yours and she says this stuff doesn't really do much for her. :)

I apply it in a very straightforward manner. Into sopping wet hair, I lean to the side and scrunch in a nickle size blob. Then I repeat on the next side with one more blob.

Gee, I never once got stringy with this.... And I can be prone to stringy with a product that wrong for me. BTW, I DO NOT use a leave in under it.

Ditto for application (use about a quarter size in total).

It is not stringy with or without a leave in which is highly unusual with a strong hold gel for me.

Are the people that are having good luck with the HESMU using anything under it. I know rudeechick said no leave in - any curl cream product or just this gel?

xcptnl - I've used it with or without leave in successfully. I don't have any luck with creams so I've never tried it with one. Also worked well with FSG and, of course, CK - but I promise I won't start extolling its virtues until at least June.

It's funny. HESMU was one gel that I used over a year or so ago and actually finished the tube. You would think that would set off an alarm in my head that it worked well. But nope - I ventured off to other gel pastures. I actually have a full tube (the alarm obviously worked enough so that I knew to repurchase) in the product closet. Due to this thread (thanks whaterscurl and rudeechick) I pulled it out of retirement and used it today. So far so good.

i finally picked up a bottle of HESME after getting great curl shape, but stringlets from TT and good clumping but not such a great curl shape from BE.. and WOW, all the best things from the other two gels combined...and dare i say it, my girls didn't get all pulled out like they always do when i pineapple and i have 2nd day hair!
