trying to grow with the flow

Hi! I am a newbie.
I have had some crazy hair in the past. Mostly it has been very short. I would really like to grow my hair out but I am not sure how to take care of it so, thats how I found this site. In hopes to make it to long curl girl Land I am going to post a photo from 8 months ago and one from today. Today I went no-poo 5 days and did the ploped turban and am delighted to see how great it looks. Usually I air dry and then use a curling iron to smooth and re-direct like in my profile pix. Today I am amazed how much shorter my hair is with out the heat. I really can't wait till my husband returns from Iraq to see this. He will definitely want to touch it, oh no! Oh well, here goes nothing

I'll keep posting, I am so inspired by the natural beauty on this site!

OH and I used Natures Gate conditioner, Weleda Rosemary hair oil, Tresemme curl locking spray and Tresemme cream gel (my brother works for them) no cones as far as I can see. I am a health food store type of chick. Any suggestions

I'm a newbie, too! I found Nature's Gate Conditioner today and used that to co-wash. My hair is still really dry/frizzy looking. I'm hoping I have as good of results as you have! Your hair looks beautiful! Maybe after a few weeks, my hair will not look so dry.

Thank you so much. This really is the best my hair has looked in a long time.
Purplecurls27 please post some pix, and let me know how you are progressing too.
I ordered a product that I haven't heard anyone talk about, LUSH handmade cosmetics. They do mainly organic and are big in minimal packaging. I ordered a gel and I will let the blog know how it goes. On the Lush website there were a lot of reviews from curly haired folks. I was really just ordering their massage bars but thats a different blog...

I was looking back through this thread just now and I think our curl patterns are similar. I, too, am really in to natural products. Right now, I use Nature's Gate as my cowash, then Giovanni 50/50 as my rinse out/leave in. I use Giovanni LA Naturals gel (the new version that's paraben free). Those are the only 3 products I'm using right now, and I hope to not have to use anymore! I'm trying to figure out how to diffuse well...I need a solution for days when I can't wait 5-6 hours for my hair to dry. So far, the diffuser gives my curls lots of bounce...almost too much. I'm definitely not liking the diffuser right now. Maybe I'll figure it out! I posted a bunch of pics here:

    Hi,
Your hair looks wonderful! If you like to use natural products, you might want to look into Flax seed gel. Some people make it (look at the natural recipe thread) or you can buy it. (making it is pretty inexpensive)
If you live near a Whole foods Grocery, they have a pretty extensive selection of CG friendly products. (they do have not CG stuff so you will get good at label reading)
    Hope this helps:toothy8:
