Castor Oil vs PEG 40 hydrogenated castor oil

I bought the new BB gel. And as you all know they don't list ingredients ANYWHERE. So when it showed up and had castor oil in it I am thinking - nice....this won't work at ALL. But being the product slut that I am I still used it this morning. And my hair came out really decent. In the past products with castor oil in my hair made me have no volume and flat dirty looking hair. This gel has PEG 40 hydrogenated castor oil in it. Would the PEG make that much of difference in how my hair reacts to castor oil. What does the PEG do??

All I know is that when it's in front of cones, it makes them water soluble. Maybe the castor oil isn't as heavy?

Maybe it's the hydrogenation? That would make it more solid than liquid. I don't know how that would affect it though.

I've always been under the impression that the PEG 40 hydrogenated castor oil is more soluble than the non-modified version. I know some people use straight castor oil, but it usually starts to build up on them if they don't shampoo. The modified version is in LOOB as well, and some curlies have still complained that it builds up or dries them out. I've never had any problems with the modified version.

I totally forgot about that KM!! Yep - I have no issue with that product either. Now if I can just remember this when I see castor oil in another product.

According to the CurlChemist, the PEG helps make non-water soluble molecules more water soluble.

Biolage gelee has it, too. Maybe it's not THE most popular product on the boards, but it is used by some (I love it!). Of course, I also low 'poo every 3 days, and clarify once in awhile.....
