I could care less about what Bush does or did
News Flash!! Bush is no longer the president of the United States and Water is wet!

This fiasco among many of obama's constant gaffes, just makes him a bigger idiot than Bush, He's just sitting there laughing like a buffoon or as Steve Kroft questioned: Are you punch drunk?

    Punch drunk means

    Dictionary: punch-drunk (pŭnch'drŭngk')

    Home > Library > Literature & Language > Dictionary
    adj.
    1. Showing signs of brain damage caused by repeated blows to the head. Used especially of a boxer.
    2. Behaving in a bewildered, confused, or dazed manner.

there was certainly nothing wrong with the statement, it is certainly true. perhaps his laughter was inappropriate but considering he's trying to fix the problem i think he has a right to make light of a very difficult problem. it's not like he's making fun of someone else's work, it's on his shoulders so he can laugh if he wants to.

edited to delete my mean statement. it was very rude of me, i apologize.

I don't know that he sees it as all jokes and fun, but no, he has no grip on the situation and neither do the people around him. Did you read that Christina Romer thinks that the solution to the economic crisis is to have Fannie and Freddie lend MORE money?

Now if that weren't so scary it would be funny.

The interview lasted 30 minutes and this is all people can talk about, which he explained if you bothered to listen. I suppose it would have been better if he curled up in a fetal position and started crying "we are doomed!"

    Here is his explanation:
"You're sitting here. And you are laughing. You are laughing about some of these problems. Are people gonna look at this and say, 'I mean, he's sitting there just making jokes about money.' How do you deal with, I mean, explain the…mood and your laughter," Kroft asked. "Are you punch drunk?"

"No, no. There's gotta be a little gallows humor to get you through the day," Obama explained. "You know, sometimes my team talks about the fact that if you had said to us a year ago that the least of my problems would be Iraq, which is still a pretty serious problem, I don't think anybody would have believed it. But we've got a lot on our plate. And a lot of difficult decisions that we're gonna have to make."

Anyway, apparently he did something right because the market was up 500 points yesterday.

He inherited a huge mess and he is doing his best to make it right. I'm baffled by people who want him to fail and I hope 3cCurly doesn't sprain her neck shaking her head so much.

Were you equally baffled by the folks who wanted the prior administration to fail?

But did you care as much when Bush was cracking jokes about soilder's dying?

Do you live in a cave? Do you actually know people in real life? Because it's actually very common for people to tell jokes and laugh when they are facing a crisis. It's called de-stressing, and is considered to unhealthy to not do so.

    de–stress
Pronunciation: \ˈdē-ˈstres\ Function:intransitive verb : to release bodily or mental tension : unwind

And news flash: Obama didn't create this crisis, it's been going on for a while now, and it will take a while before it's fixed.

Why are people so hell bent on blaming Obama for a recession that's been going on for over a year and that will probably take at least that long to resolve itself. He's been president for two months, did y'all honestly expect him to come in and wave a magic wand and fix it??? Seriously.

At some point, even in the face of total carp, you have to laugh. You have to. People who don't get that are either lying or a little bit inhuman.
"And politically correct is the worst term, not just because it’s dismissive, but because it narrows down the whole social justice spectrum to this idea that it’s about being polite instead of about dismantling the oppressive social structure of power.
Fun Fact: When you actively avoid being “PC,” you’re not being forward-thinking or unique. You’re buying into systems of oppression that have existed since before you were even born, and you’re keeping those systems in place."

I just can't picture Hoover or Roosevelt laughing while being interviewed during the Great Depression. But I'm sure it's because I'm lying or inhuman, or something like that.

Not sure about the magic wand but I did expect to see lots of Hopeyness and Changitude. And, so far, I'm not seeing it.

    I'll keep looking though! :glasses8:

Thank god for a sense of humor in our president. I mean really.

He's up against the worst situation in a really, really, really long time. If he couldn't let off some steam by laughing a bit, I'd be worried for us all.

And comparing him to presidents from the pre-TV era ain't right.

It's a whole different ball of wax these days. Roosevelt was in a freaking wheelchair, fercrissakes, and most people didn't even know it.

In other words, you can bet that Hoover and Roosevelt laughed and stuck their foot in their mouths from time to time. But with no 24-hour news cycle and no prime time television interviews, nobody was the wiser.

Gallows humor is the main way I deal with crappy situations; sometimes if you don't laugh, you'll go crazy. And honestly, the economic situation our country is in is pretty absurd.

Laughter is the best medicine, and gallows humor is the most effective way to deal with the crappy hand you've been given. Lighten up, people! Considering the DOW is up by several points, Obama MUST be doing something right.
