My roots are dark .. (grease?)

I've been attempting to go shampooless, recently tho, I'm noticed my roots geting really dark. Is it oil? What can I do about it?

Greasy roots are really shiny, but not in the healthy way. It's like a dull shine that just looks dirty. It also feels oddly slick. When my hair is greasy, it also gets really stringy. I feel like you'd just know that it's greasy. If you are greasy, you can add some fresh squeezed lemon juice to your cowash.
