My homemade DT journey...

mzmillionmzmillion Posts: 874Registered Users
I made my own DT tonight. I boiled rosemary and sage with about a cup of water and then I let it cool. I added a little corn syrup and some conditioner to thicken it just slightly. Now I have it sitting on my hair, its kinda runny but I didn't use that much and I have a cap on. The rosemary and sage is a recipe I found for shiny hair but I decided to add my own additions...lol. We'll see how it works. I think once a week I'm going to start doing this. Some homemade DT I thought of or found online. Feel free to post yours in here. I'll be recording the pictures and results in my fotki...lol. This should be fun, I'm loving my hair this month so this gives me more excuses to play in it.

Making homemade DTs are fun! I use coconut milk as a DT. I loved it when I just let it sit on my hair for an hour or so. But then one day I decided to sit under a soft bonnet dryer for 5 minutes (I was in a rush) and had even better (like 10x better!) results!

I am about to do one now and upload a fotki tutorial this evening.

Let us know how your DT goes. The sugar should make your hair soft.

it was great!!! I decided to detangle with it in to be quick and that was a breeze, it was so soft and detangling was super easy. When I washed it out, it was super shiny... the rosemary/sage is supposed to make your hair shiny and without any product it was shiny, and me being the lazy person I am, decided to just brush it back into pony with little oil and some curl act. but I loved it. It was very soft and easy to manage. I like this, it was soupy but the corn syrup was great. This will be one for me to add to the regimen when I run out.
I left it on for about 30 mins. I update the pictures tomorrow.

Today its a mix of yellow syrup(has honey and corn syrup, not much more) a drop of LVPNG, and a egg yolk sitting in my hair today....

I'm actually nervous to wash it out..lol. I'm going to try to do super cold water.

The consistency was super thick and slimy... kinda disgusting...lol.

So I'm in the process of doing my coconut milk DT, and its not going so good. It's really thin(but maybe thats because I warmed mine) so I have it in refrig to thicken it up. It also stinks, I was expecting coconut smell, this doesn't smell like that. Hopefully within next couple mins I can get it on my hair without running and put on my soft bonnet.

I had really good results with some left over un-whipped whipping cream and honey that I slapped on my head more as whim than anything else.

I didn't want to use the whipping cream (moment on the lips, lifetime on the hips) so I decided to put it on my head, where I can wash it off :flower:

Started my weekly Saturday regime a bit early. Took the [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Jessicurl-Weekly-Deep-Conditioning-Treatment-p-106.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=jessicurl-weekly-deep-conditioner-treatment]Jessicurl WDT[/buylink], which did absolutely nothing for my hair, and add EVOO, glycerin and honey (by the end of the day my hair was feeling a bit drier than normal so thought I would double up on the humectants. Have it on night. Trying to decide if I want go to bed now and leave it on overnight or stay up and rinse it out.

I will be trying a banana mixture DT tomorrow. It's baby food, and I remember seeing a recipe somewhere about bananas but I think I'm going to go simple and just add it to my Doo Grow DT and some oil.

So I'm sitting with my banana hair mask on. It is a mix of bananas, mayo, and olive oil. I found the recipe on some site. I'm going to leave it on for about 30-45 mins and then wash it out.

Tonight its the baking soda/conditioner DT. You can find it on youtube and try it, I'm about to wash it out now, but it has been in my hair for about 30 minutes.

For that runny coconut milk, try 1/2 avocado in the blender, then dribble in about a cup of coconut. It makes the most heavenly fluffy creamy DT. Avocado works as an emulsifier. I balk a little because of the expense, but I often have a half leftover. It would probably work with whipping cream too. I'll have to try that.

I'm enjoying reading your ideas and results!

Currently trying: honey, AVG, homemade FSG, mayo DT

Current challenge: wanting more bright blond and less dark gel look.

I'm sitting here with a mixture on my head. I took some AOHR and mixed it with suave coconut conditioner with a fair amount of honey EVOO and grapeseed oil. I'm gonna leave it on for a few hours and asee how it comes out.
