jessicurl in britain?!

jennyfurrensjennyfurrens Registered Users Posts: 708
i've just read some rave reviews about jessicurl, and altho there is a european online shop for jessicurl products, its still about £10 for postage, which i can't afford on my student budget

has anyone succesfully found a place to buy jessicurl products slightly cheaper than £10 p&p? the products themselves aren't cheap, but i'm willing to pay extra on products that care for my curls, but not on the p&p.

if not jessicurl, do any british girls know any really good products that cater for curls like jessicurl do? i use umberto gianni or aussie moist/3 minute miracle usually but they have silicones in them and i'm about to try CG so i want to try non-silicone based products...

any help would be great!

I also just refuse to pay that much money for jessicurl stuff! I know its supposed to be great, but come on! Its too much for us poor students!

Anyhoo, Have you tried the orginal source conditioners? Im using the almond deep moisture conditioner at the moment and up until a few days ago (I went out and get very drunk which always ruins my hair!? wierd!). But mix it with some honey and its really nice.

As for styling, I use Aura Flax seed and aloe gel. I get it from sallys and its working great so far.

i use their mint and teatree, and lemon and tea tree body wash and love them! which store do you buy the almond condish in? the boots near me only has the bodywash types, no shampoo or condish. i use honey in my condish already and like the results, so i'll try that original source almond and coconut, thanks for the suggestions :)

and i notice getting drunk or going out ruins my hair too!

before they brought in the smoking ban, the smoke in public places would really dry my hair out to a crisp but the alcohol also effects it slightly. just drink lots of green tea and eat lots of oily fish the next day;)

I get my OS stuff from boots and superdrug. Pretty sure they sell it in tesco and asda too if you have either of those near you?

KAnne, would you mind telling me the ingredients of the Original Source Co? I'm just about to start the CG routine, with no sulfates or cones, and want to check its ok. I can't seem to find it in any shops nearby so Ill have to order it off the website, but I cant check the ingredients otherwise!

Are you CG too? Or modified?

    Thanks

Well, I started CG (sticking to it by the word!!) about a year ago. But since then ive got to know which parts of the CG routine work me for and which dont.

I do use a mild shampoo on my hair every so often, cuz if I dont my hair looks crap and I dont really like cleaning my hair with conditioner.

I dry my hair differently to how it says in the book (I condition, put gel on soaking wet hair, plop for about 20 mins (the towel method!) and then blow dry with a diffuser (or air dry if I have time).

But the ingredients rules really helped my hair so im pleased for the book in that sense. But honestly, I found this forum more helpful to me than I did the book, but its great to get you started.

Anyway, here are the ingredients for the OS....

AQUA, CETEARYL ALCOHOL, GLYCERYL STEARATE SE, CETRIMONIUM CHLORIDE, BITTER ALMOND OIL, LEMONGRASS OIL, BASIL OIL, SWEET ALMOND OIL, COCONUT EXTRACT, CRYPTOCARYA MASSOY, HYDROLYZED VEGETABLE PROTEIN, BEHENTRIMONIUM CHLORIDE, QUATERNIUM-91, CETREMONIUM METHOSULFATE, ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL, PROPYLENE GLYCOL, HYDROLYZED WHEAT PROTEIN, CITRIC ACID, DISSODIUM EDTA

There are a few other ingredients at the end (no cones or sulfates) which are too long and I dont wanna type them out!! but you get the general idea! :)

Thanks so much! It's great to know you're on CG and you can use this, as i'm still slightly confused as to what's allowd and what's not. Once I get the book through in the post I'm sure it'll be clearer! I might go ahead and order that online though as it looks lovely, and I love their showergels! :)

I use the OS almond and coconut too and it's great especially with the added honey  I buy mine at Sainsburys.

Holland and Barrett also do one by Australian Organics which is good too, it's white conditioner in a clear bottle.

that all sounds perfect for me! i love honey in condish too, and i just tried some of that australian organics today and it was lovely!

if you're on modified CG, what do you do for shampooing though? i'm STILL waiting for the book but i can already tell i'll need to modify a little and use some poo. since the products in the UK are limited it'd be great to kno what you girls use to poo! and how frequently.

I don't doubt your assurance that the product is good and CG friendly - i went and bought some today :D Finally found it in Tesco...

But, is this ingredient not a bad sulfate? CETREMONIUM METHOSULFATE

I'm not sure if anything ending in 'sulfate' is a bad sulfate, or are all sulfates bad? I'm slightly confused, sorry for my ignorance!

and what mild shampoo do you use? I found an Aloe one in Holland and Barret that has no sulfates yey! :D

I think i'll have to stick to the health food shops to find the sulfate-free shampoos! I've got a different brand of Aloe - Aloe Pura Laboratories, so I'll see how it goes :D I'm getting my hair coloured on Monday so won't start any regime till after then, as anythign I do now will just be reversed in the salon

I am going to send some Jessicurl styling products:
CCCS and RR. Those 2 bottles are new, never be opened.
I live in Belgium so I don't know how much it would cotto ship it to UK.
I also have 1 bottle of RR and one of CCCS that are open so if someone takes all the 4 bottles I will only ask money for the 2 unopened bottles and for the shipping fee.

    Would someone be interested?

I precise that I really like those products but I have very very fragile hair that can't stand magnesium sulfate (both products contain it) so I have to find something else.

Jessicurl shampoo, Aloeba, Too Shea and the Deep Treatment are good for me So,I will keep them!

Did you know that Curlfriends is available in the UK - www.curlyco.co.uk I love the gel. I'm not up on all the curl types yet but I'm very curly and thick with a definate frizz if I'm not very careful about what I use.

Someone gave me a link to this shop yesterday - they do Curls products (some of them anyway) and a few other ranged I haven't heard of before.

I have searched online before for a stockist of Jessicurl in the UK but never found anything :( I really want to try RR and Confident Coils.

to be honest, confident coils did NOTHING for my hair and I know a few other curlies who didnt like it. So don't feel like you're missing out too much. I might be getting rid of a Jessicurl WDT and if you'd like I could send you a small sample of it?

Thanks for the offer JennyFurrens - I already have WDT though (I love her conditioners!) :D

Yeah, I have heard mixed results from Confident Coils, but I thought it was worth trying. I think I really want to try Curls Milkshake and maybe one or two others of theirs too.

I'm curious - where did you get the WDT from? i got mine when a friend of mine went to america, so i had it delivered from curlmart to her bf's flat and then she brought it back with her. is there a secret source of Jessicurl in the UK that i'm not aware of?

Firstly a friend sent me some from the US, then I found Mariposa Import and have ordered from them since. I know it is still pricey, but I stay clear of high street and regular brands due to ethical beliefs (I will not ever try Boots Curl Cream, no matter how much of a Holy Grail it is for many, due to their continued animal testing) so I don't have a great deal of choice.

Hi snap cat, glad to meet another person that cares for animals, It's difficult to find animal friendly products isn't it, I too could never use any product that I know animals have died for or put money in the pockets of any companies that deal in it.

Hi Sue, you're right it is difficult to find products for curlies especially. It seems there are lots of things available that are quite generic but when you need something more specialised you have hunt things down.

I'm glad I was introduced to Jessicurl products - she has a run-down of the ingredients on her site and they are ethically-sound and pretty near all natural. It makes me feel so much better to know I am being a responsible consumer :D

I think there are things available here at Curlmart but shipping is so high to the UK it makes it difficult, especially when, like me, you are just starting out embracing your curliness and still don't know what works for you.

For a moment it crossed my mind that I could try to set up some sort of distribution business for this type of product over here, but then I realised how difficult it would be I let it cross on by

If any of you get the Jessicurl newsletter, you found out today that there's a new Jessicurl supplier in France. So being the curious cat I am, I went to the website to check and see if it was hopefully less expensive than Mariposa. Boy was I wrong. :? It's significantly more, like say 18.50 euros for a jar of Too Shea compared to 15 euros at Mariposa. And being the american I am I had to translate all this into dollars to really see the difference. So compared to ordering Jessicurl in the States, where it's 12 usd for a jar of TS, it's 19.80 at Mariposa, and over 23usd at the new french supplier. And to think that's not including shipping. *sigh*

That price is totally ridiculous!! Her products are slightly more expensive than others in the US, and that's because they work and are all natural. But to chrage $20 for one tub of conditioner is just unbelievable  Thanks for letting us know lush.

I once had a quote for shipping direct from Jessicurl, and on the face of it it was slightly less expensive to order direct from her in the States than order from Mariposa.

BUT - then add on any unexpected customs charges from the US and you could end up paying way more. I wouldn't expect her to mark it as a gift and as cheaper than it is on the customs form, so there really is no way around it.

I'm currently trying to work out how much it would be to get Curls stuff direct from Mahisha - but I suspect it wouldn't be enough of a saving to risk customs.

Sometimes it really does suck the big one living in the UK

I have yet to have anything sent directly from CurlMart or Jessicurl here to Sweden (being unemployed for one thing ), but having someone send it to me will definitely take care of the customs problem since I can get them to mark it as gift. Cat, did I mark gift on yours?? I certainly hope so, if not I feel awful!
