Lost 16 inches, going to get it back...

Salutations, my curly-haired friends!
Ok, so here's the deal; this past January, I finally worked up the nerve to let my boyfriend's mother cut 16 inches off my hair so I could donate it to Locks Of Love. I went from cascading tresses falling to my waist in lovely mahogany waves (which had not been cut AT ALL in two years...), to vibrant, bouncy ringlets barely gracing my shoulders. Talk about traumatic! While I'm enjoying the relative ease of short hair (much less styling time), I desperately miss my long locks and plan on growing them out.

The problem? I have NO idea what to do about a cut in between. When Mrs. Cade cut it short, we just opted for a fairly simple, faux-layers, just a tad shorter in front look. I wasn't really sure what to do with it, and she didn't want to really jack up my hair. It's decent now, but I'm going to need something done so that it will grow out attractively. I have an appointment in April (that's the soonest I could get in with my mom's hairdresser, she's the best in our small-ish town and she's got curly hair)...

Anyway, sorry for the rambling, basically I want to hear some ideas on attractive cuts that grow out nicely for type 3a (I think) hair.

Hey! I'm in the exact same boat as you....except mine is chin-length when curly :S Its fun and different but I miss my hair!!! The best cut for curly hair in general, as well as for growing out, is long layers.

I'll try to get one tomorrow, there is one on my profile here... I think... I'm still trying to figure out navigating these forums... It's not the best pic of me, though.

OK, found these pictures: the first is my current-ish hair. This was taken the day I got it cut, which was just at two months ago. I've got about an inch and a half growth on it since then (I know, crazy, eh?!) It's still kinda wet from being cut, and it's just pinned back on the top, and no product whatsoever. Purely raw hair, that. :P

These are of my hair "raw" nothing on it. The first is the result of a few weeks of CG, which resulted in great curls, but nasty scalp... I have too much oil for a poo-less routine... http://photos-c.ll.facebook.com/photos-ll-sf2p/v119/114/66/553780594/n553780594_1149938_7105.jpg This second one is 'normal' hair care... these are pretty old...http://photos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-sf2p/v117/114/66/553780594/n553780594_942395_9619.jpg

This one is just to give some perspective on the length I lost... :( This was taken at about the end of last October... http://photos-b.ll.facebook.com/photos-ll-snc1/v351/114/66/553780594/n553780594_4670249_1676.jpg
