Deep Treatments - What do you use?
in Hair Type 4
I am on the search for a new DT and I want to know what you guys suggest. I think I'm going to try to DT 2-3 times a week because I feel like my ends are brittle. I don't know and maybe after my cut this week, it will help on my curl pattern.
So please take into a count that I'm broke and I need a lot...lmao. So what do you guys use.
I was using Hawaiin Silky Replenish Masque, it was nice, had lots of little seeds and crap like that in it. I also use a cheap cholesterol.
I am on the curly girl regimen(or trying to be) so no sulfates or silicones for me.
How do I know if my hair is protein heavy, I read in another thread that you can tell if your hair seems to not get wet good or it dries super fast.. is that true, and if I wash my hair with ACV that it will restore it or something. I have Aphogee pH Balance stuff but I never use it...
Anyway back to topic, Deep Treatments, I need suggestions...

anyway, I have read that mixing 2 of these 3 products work well - olive oil, honey, yogurt. I think I did try the yogurt and honey mix and sat under a dryer for about 20 minutes. The effect was nice when I had it in (soft) but when I washed it out I lost the effect. I used it as a pre-poo conditioner.
You might wanna try it. It's not that expensive - but honey is going for near $5 a jar right now. At least you can use it for other things (like sweetning tea) if you like honey. Make parfaits with the leftover yogurt.
I used maple syrup because it is cheap. I didn't want to use my real good honey just in case it was a bust :tongue3:
faves: suave, v05 shampoo, conditioner (my own), raw shea butter, castor oil, peanut oil, aloe juice

I use Lutrasilk as a leave-in per CurlyNikki's advice and it is AMAZING!!!:tongue3: Talk about having soft and defined curls. Don't really know about using as a DT, but I'm pretty sure if you mixed it with something, it might turn out mighty fine. I will try it one day.
Oh yeah, greatest thing about Lutrasilk....it is CHEAP.
THANKS AGAIN CURLY NIKKI!!! :salute:

I think that the ^^ two treatments you are currently using have mineral or petroleum in them. If so you probably need to make sure you are washing regularly to prevent build up. These things are great barriers to keep moisture in but they can also block it out and cause dryness so you want to be sure they are gone.
I have never heard of hair being protein heavy. It sounds like you are talking about a porosity issue. I would recommend doing a search for that term to learn more about it.
As for DT. If you want to buy them then I recommend:
1) Elasta QP DPR-11
2) ORS Replenishing Pak
3) Pantene Relaxed & Natural treatment
If you want to make them yourself ( I would highly recommend this if you want to have lots for a little bit of $$$).
1) Caramel Treatment:
honey
olive oil
bananas
molasses
cornstarch
water
vinegar
wheatgerm oil
When I make this I don't use water or cornstarch. You can also substitute whatever oils work for your hair but heavier oils tend to be best.
2) Honey/yogurt/banana
3) Sour cream mixed with a little conditioner
With any of these that call for bananas, I use the baby food bananas because it makes it much easier.
