Five Guys Burgers and Fries

SpunkyCurlsSpunkyCurls Posts: 1,523Registered Users
I didn't want to guano the McD thread... MichelleBFT mentioned 5 Guys Burgers and Fries and we just had one open up the street. What is the deal with it? Why is it different than other places? I'm just curious because it's always packed.

This is my favorite local burger and fries place (well, I guess they aren't really local if they've made it out to Texas). Their fries are fresh and cooked in peanut oil. They taste great. I love their burgers too.

Five guys is the BEST burgers and fires ever!!! I used to work down the street from the original one in Ole Town Alexandria and OMG...the fries are fresh cut, thick, broadwalk style cooked in peanut oil, the burgers are fresh formed ground beef patties. Think your moms homemade "ghetto" burgers but like 100x better (and no sandwich bread....lol)!

I know a lot of people that really like it.

I'm not a meat eater, but the one time I went I couldn't stomach it. I got a grilled cheese and fries, maybe it was how they prepared my food but it was all so greasy I could only take a few bites.

Yeah, but there are tons of places in NY that offer similar food! I'm sure some of the NY-based burger joints are of the same quality. Go get yourself some food! :)

It sounds good, I'm hungry! Is it a fast food place or more like Steak n Shake? I've never heard of it.

OHIDAWG Best burgers you can buy. Seriously. For years (YEARS) I used to think to myself, Man, I really want a really good burger. But the only burger options around were either fast food junk or TGIFridays or Ruby Tuesdays or crap like that, which always sounded like a good idea but were never really a good, fresh, delicious burger. They always tasted like they're come out of a deep freeze shortly before I ordered them.

But Five Guys. Whole different world. Fresh beef, fresh formed patties, fresh cut fries. They put what you ask for on it and nothing else: if you order a hamburger, you get bread and meat, period.

Seriously, I don't think I can keep talking about it because my mouth in involuntarily filling with saliva at the thought of it. Yeah, it's that good. It is in no way health food, but when you want a Burger, that's the place to get it. No question.

They opened one near my house a few months ago, it's pretty good. It's no In N Out, sniff, but it's pretty good. The french fries are fantastic!

The hype, a la Krispy Creme. Their burgers and fries are good, but not that good.

I just tried it for the first time last week. Good burger, but I didn't try the fries. Someone asked how it compared to Steak & Shake - I thought it was better for about the same price, but then I've never been very impressed with Steak & Shake. I didn't find anything unique about 5 Guys, it was just a good burger - about like homemade, to me.

Not typical fastfood cheap - I spent $40 on 2 regular cheeseburgers, 2 of the smaller burgers (about the size of a Quarter Pounder), 2 fries and 4 drinks. I do like the way you can choose from so many better-quality condiments (mushrooms, sauteed onions, etc) for no extra cost. Bacon and cheese are extras, though.

Never had In and Out so don't know how it compares.
    2C/3A/3B - modified CG - fairly fine now, normal/low porosity/normal elasticity

Current Main Rotation: MG217 medicated or Aim2Health 'poos for scalp, Elucence cond., Spiral Solutions Protein & Deeply Decadent Cond., CJCCCC reg or lite,CJ Pattern Pusha,, Giovanni LA Hold Hair Spritz + lots more, sporadically

HG Method: Super Soaker + Smasters-ing, brief upside down diffusing w/360o diffuser then clips/clamps & air dry. Newly gray - stopped my henna glosses!

    Thanks guys.

We live near a campus and there's so many sandwich/burger places that when this one opened we went, "Really? Another one?"

I guess we'll have to try it sometime.

Terra Burger also opened up. Any word on that place?

I used to go to that one when I worked in Old Town (near King and Fairfax) and they did have the best burgers ever.

They're so good - they're sliced fresh and fried in peanut oil with the skins on... and there is like a little sugar or something kind of salty/sweet sprinkled on them. Yum.

There are 3 or 4 in my area, but I have yet to try them! I've heard good things about them though.

Those fries sound amazing right now!

They make some of the best burgers! I like them WAY better than Fuddruckers, but they're second-best to Portillos in the Chicago area.

Anyway, everything is made fresh. I think that's what makes their food good. And you get alot(especially the fries). Never get a large, as two-three people can share the regular.

It's a guilty indulgence every once in awhile. :)

I was about to post that there's one in Bay Ridge, at least, near the 86th St stop on the R. It is pretty darn yummay, I usually stop in if I'm in the area.

I love 5 Guys! I never do typical fast food, McDonald's, Wendy's and such. But when I want a great burger, that's the place we go. Awesome fries, too.

I have to get the smaller burger though. The big one is just too much. I like to load it up with cheese, bacon, grilled onions & mushrooms. Yummmmm!

I must be getting better cuz just the thought of one of their burgers right now is making me kinda hungry. I've been living on Jell-O and chicken broth for too long now.

Adrina! Where are you from? Are you from the Midwest, enjoying REAL Steak n Shake? I'm stuck here in Texas with a faux Steak n Shake in Austin - NOT the same at all, nowhere near as good as the originals.

There are Steak n Shakes in Rockwall, east of Dallas. Real ones. I don't know why I got so excited when I saw it... it's not like it's so close. 3.5 hours away!

Yeeaaahhhh, I ate one of the Dallas area ones one time - it sucked, too. Faux Steak n Shakes make me sad.

So now when we go home we hold out 'til at least St. Louis - there's that one on the Rock Road that we usually hit. Then of course they're ALL OVER Springfield, which is nice.
