Low hormone BC

I never made the connection until someone pointed it out to me a few weeks ago, but I think the reason I lost most of my curl is because I was put on Yasmin in high school. It's supposed to be low hormones but is there a BC that is even lower? Something that's people have noticed to be nicer to hair, too? I take it for acne and heavy periods/bad PMS. And of course the added benefit of an extra contraceptive method, haha.

How is Ortho-tricyclen lo for this?
What about the patch?

I just got put on Ortho low, so I'll let you know :P

I was on regular Ortho tri before, and never noticed any changes in my curls. Not changes making it curlier or less on the Lo version either, but it's only been a month.

As for the patch... are you talking about that Ortho Evra? I think that one's off the market now. I was on it for awhile, went off and my body went NUTS... and THEN all the information about it releasing too many hormones into your system came out. -_- grr. I know it didn't cause my PCOS, but it sure did make it unhappy.

Ah, perhaps I'm out of the loop as far as what's available anymore. I've just been on the same thing for about 4 years so that's all I know anything about, really. What about the NuvaRing or something?

Nuvaring is the same strength I believe. I HATED that friggin thing. It really messed my body up for months.

I take a generic of Loestrin, which I believe is the lowest dose available in BC pills. My hair has not changed from it and I have been on it for about 8 years now maybe?

Loestrin hmm? Well I need to go in to the DR sometime soon, so I'll ask her about that.

Just a warning, its EXPENSIVE. We are talking anywhere from 75-90 bucks a month. That is why I take the generic. However, this stuff has saved me. Before it, I was so anemic I was about to be sent in for a blood transfusion. I also have endometrosis and cramps so horrible I would faint. Thankfully this pill solved all of that.

I've been on Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo for about 5 years. It's loosened up my curls A LITTLE, but really nothing that anyone but me would notice because it's my head.

Not to guano, but Yasmin is low-dose? I've wanted to try something else for years b/c there STILL is no generic for Ortho Lo and I'd love to find something more cost effective. My mother had breast cancer, therefore I am restricted to low dose birth control only.
3a on top and sides/3b underneath...lots of hair

Yasmin is supposed to be low dose but apparently it's not low enough for my body. My hair lost all curl and it also reduced my sex drive like crazy.

Wow, that's awful. Thankfully I was never that bad but I did go on BC because of nasty PMS, cramps, heavy flow and bad acne.
As long as my insurance covers the generic I'm not too worried. Thanks a bunch!

    Paragard
It's non-hormonal and more than 99% effective - I use it and I love it!

I actually need the hormones for my acne and severe PMS. :[
    I just don't want a lot.

I actually wasn't aware that birth control had any impact on curls. I was on birth control for 5 years for the first 2.5 being on ovcon and the last 2.5 years on NuvaRing (which I loved). It was convenient, easy, and had no side effects for me personally. However, I have been off for 7 months now and have only began my transition to CG 3 months ago so I cannot say with assurance that it had an impact. However, I always maintained a good amount of curls even while on both but not sure how it would do with CG.

Hormones can affect hair greatly...which is why a lot of women's curls straighten out during pregnancy. HBC basically does the same thing. :/
Of course it's not the same for everyone, but I thought I'd give it a try.

I've tried out different BC's since August. Loestrin seemed to loosen my curls initially but I think once my hormones regulated themselves after the first month, everything went back to normal. I stopped the Loestrin because it wasn't helping with the issue I was taking it for, and got Implanon(progestrin implant). It doesn't cause me any weight gain nor has it effected my curl. Because of my health issue, my doc made me double up on BC and I was on Ortho Lo for one month. That did not effect my curls either...just made me retain water like crazy.
