Is it really the products that make the difference?

I'm new to letting my hair go wavy...I'm a 2c, very thick hair, very loose waves. I am following CG, conditioning the ends, then shampooing the scalp, then rinsing, then conditioning everything. I scrunch in some loreal melting gel, which my hair seems to like.

I don't want to go broke buying products. I also need to know that the products I use are available at the drugstore. Does anyone have any luck using drugstore products? If so, what do you use?

I'd rather find a cheaper, more readily available alternative than order all kinds of products online that may or may not work.
:love1:2c-Coarse and Porous.
Experimenting with products right now.

My routine:
Low poo for scalp
Condition using icequeen method
rake in gel at scalp
scrunch with microfiber towel
scrunch in more gel side to side
pixiecurl diffuse side to side
SOTC

My hair hates:
Upside down diffusing
Upside down Plopping
Protein

A lot of us use drugstore products such as LVPNG, HESMU, Suave naturals, LOOB, Giovanni is found at Target, Lustrasilk and GVP conditioning balm are found at Sally's. I'm sure there are more. A lot of the products that are ordered on-line are more natural and that's why they are liked so much. If you want to try some of them go to the swap boards. KathyMack has tons of samples. I did that and it's been great. I have found I liked some things and didn't like others and I didn't break the bank or end up with a bunch of stuff that didn't work.

    I'm a 2c/3a, leaning more to 3A . . . .

Giovanni's also at Rite-Aid ,and they sometimes have it BOGO.

LA Looks Sports Gel is a good, cheap strong-hold gel, pretty comparable to Biolage Rock Hard Gelee. I actually like it better.

Bioinfusion conditioning balm at Walgreen's is comparable to GVP and Biolage.

L'Oreal Tightly Wound is a light spray gel that some like.

Bioterra curl creme and gel at Sally's are a favorite around here. GVP Reconstructing Conditioner is a good protein treatment from Sally's.
