Relaxing my CURLS.... naturally...>>

I know a lot of you are trying to "enhance your curls" to bring them out.... but I kept trying to "relax my curls".

I tried this and love the results, for me.
My hair is mixed textures...some 3a, 3b and 3c.

1. CO-Wash my hair. Leave Tresemme in my hair and squeeze out the excess. Comb it through my hair.

2. Twist my wet hair up into 1 large twist at ponytail height on my head.

3. Clip the ends of the twist back to my head (where the twist starts). That way the twist folded back on itself and made a cute looking french twist.

4. I was able to wear it and sleep on it for 2 days while it dried before I let the curls down to fall into loose curls. Just what I was looking for !!

I think this will be perfect for summertime too !!

LEFT PIC: my hair if I DONT twist it and let it dry.
MIDDLE PIC: Relaxed curls - naturally.
RIGHT PIC: Single twist while drying.

I keep meaning to try something like that, but I couldn't stand waiting that long for it to dry! Actually, I haven't goot as much hair as you, unfortunately, so it may not take as long. Did you put any product in it, either before or after?

One thing that I like about this is that it looks great twisted, while it is drying, so I don't mind wearing it back for a few days.

About product...yes, in the shower, I always put Tresemme Vitamin E Condish in my hair and leave it in. I squeeze out the excess, comb it through, then twist up my hair, let it dry.

Even if I wasn't doing this twist-out style... I still use Tresemme only. My hair is fine and long, and needs more body.

Thanks! I put my hair in that twist this morning after my hair got a little dry but I didn't use tresseme. I think it will still have the same results, though. I'll see tomorrow morning! ☺

How long does the loose curls last? If you wash it will it go back to its natural pattern?
  • th1th1 Posts: 98Registered Users
Hi, it will last until I wash it again. Then I will twist it up again.

I can also sit under a hair dryer to speed up the drying time, but when I take it down, I like it to be a bit damp for separating and positioning the curls, then it will totally dry.

th1, do you think there is anyway to modify that style for short hair? Mine is only to my shoulders stretched.
  • th1th1 Posts: 98Registered Users
    Hi, thanks for your compliments.

I don't know if there's a way to do this with shoulder length hair. I make 1 large twist when my hair is wet and let it dry, which relaxes my curls.

I'd imagine if you make twists in sections, then pinned it up to dry, you may see looser curls ???

Try it and let us know what happens.

looks awesome i did something similar when my hair was real long - I parted the front where i wanted it , let it air dry or blow try if in a hurry until it was about 90% dry. then i smooted it into big bun. I put my diffuser over the bun and got it nice and hot. Then let it cool and pulled it out. Loved doing this!

hm, i also do this but mine is a lot quicker to dry (mine isn't as thick as yours judging from your picture) if I put it in a twist after showering around 8 AM then it's pretty much dry enough to take down by noon.

Your hair looks great. But my hair would turn sour if I had to wait that long for it to dry.

Playing with my hair is a hobby. Fluffy, fine natural 4a. Goal= Healthy, beautiful hair that retains its length.
Hear that crash? It's me falling off the CG wagon.

This works for me too. :) My hair pulls straight to wavy with curly ends when I do a wet pony and let it dry (it's not long enough for the twist yet, but it's getting there).

My hair does the straight to wavy thing too, but it's when I put it in a bun. I hate it- my hair looks perfect once I take it out of the bun, and then the super-spiraled ends make it unwearable...

Do you like twist it in a bun then clip it or just bring it back to where the twist is and clip it ?
  • th1th1 Posts: 98Registered Users
Hi, there... after twisting my hair, I let the twisted hair fold back on itself and then bobby pinned the end at the same place where the twist started at my scalp. My hair was long, back then, and this helped it to dry a bit faster overnight. I don't have a pic of this, sorry.
