Getting Close to...

Nothing!! :sad5: Here's the situation: I've been searching for a leave-in conditioner that I can use on my hair throughout the day (without wetting my hair), as well as after I shampoo. My old faithful, since I returned to natural hair, is African Royale Daily Doctor (original formula). It keeps my hair moisturized and soft without being greasy.

The original formula has been discontinued and the "New Improved Formula" has mineral oil (pariffinum liquidum) and lanolin in it. I cannot use mineral oil, petroleum, or beeswax in my hair because my scalp will flake and itch; my hair will become brittle and greasy; my scalp pores become clogged; and I have to wash my hair 3-4 times to get the gunk off my hair and scalp.

I have tried different leave-ins to replace ARDD. The only product that works is Aubrey Organics Sea Buckthorn Leave-in Conditioner and Curl Activator. It's just as good as ARDD...but the smell knocks your socks off! I don't want to tamper with it, lest I diminish the effects that I need for my hair. So my search is for the same quality ingredients as the original formula of ARDD and nice smell.

I can find the original formula at the texasbeautysupply.com--but how long will their supply last?!:dontknow:

I need something that I can use any time and in any season, with the option of using it on dry hair-like the original formula of African Royale Daily Doctor.

Here are the ingredients of the original formula:

Deionized water, glycerine, allantoin, aloe vera gel, polydimethylsiloxane, silk amino protein, polysorbate 80, sage, ginseng extract, sheep sorrell, yarrow, wheat germ, slippery elm bark, henna, comfrey, burdock root, goldenseal, cherry bark, black walnut, chamomile, jarborandi (heavenly hemp), alfalfa, hyssop, methyl paraben and fragrance.

Below are the products that I have tried:

Ouidad Sun and Sport Leave-in
*It foamed up in my hair, and dried it out like a double sulfate shampoo with isopropyl alcohol. I will be calling the company to see why that happened.

*It left my hair frizzy, greasy, and dry. I know it doesn't have any oils in it.

John Frieda Collection Frizz-Ease Style Secret Weapon Flawless Finishing Creme
*It left my hair greasy and dry.

Neutrogena Triple Moisture Leave-in
*It left my hair greasy, dry and with small, white
flakes.

Donna Marie CoCoa Hemp Hair Buttercream
*Not moisturizing enough and left my hair a bit
greasy. Also, I have to put on wet hair, otherwise
big flakes of residue form on my hair.

African Pride Leave-in
*It was using water for a leave-in, and it left my
hair dry like hard water does.

If you have any suggestions, please feel free to post them!

Have you thought of making your own version of ARDD? Depending on where you live, you should be able to purchase the aloe vera gel and vegetable glycerine at a store. The herbs and extracts you could find online. Trying looking on camdrengrey.com, fromnaturewithlove.com, and mountainroseherbs.com. Even Amazon has herbs in bulk sometimes. You'll have to expermient to decided how much of what you need depending on your hair. HTH

That idea is the last resort. I did make my own version one time, but I can't remember the ratios. I could figure it out, but I would waste a lot trying to do so. Thanks, though. :tweety:
