Has anyone gone back to shampooing?

KindredGhost1983KindredGhost1983 Posts: 1,187Registered Users
Just recently I did after a year of not shampooing my hair. I know shampooing is hated here. But I hate it when my hair lies flat on my head after not shampooing for a long time. It's so much easier and I love the clean feeling anyways. Its probably the cones, but my hair looks like crap without cones. I do it about once a week.

If any of you have gone back to shampooing, why did you do it?

I shampoo occasionally but only with NONSULFATE shampoos. Same reason as you. I use one cone and I sometimes use a lot of gel or hairspray if I'm doing a bun, and I just get build-up/flathead. But i try to keep the shampooing to a minimum.

I wouldn't say that shampooing is "hated" here, but that a large percentage of curlies are on CG. I am not one of those curlies. :) I shampoo once a week(or as needed) with a non-sulfate 'poo. I use to shampoo 2-3 times a week, but realized it wasn't necessary.

I tried doing CG, and my scalp hated it. My scalp totally freaked out, and was extremely flaky and gunky looking. Even with vigorous scalp scrubbing/massaging.

You have to do what's best for you. If that means shampooing, so be it.

My scalp hated the CG with a passion. I don't care how much I massaged and rinsed, it just wasn't happening for me. I can't put nothing on my scalp anyway or it will start to itch something fierce. Besides that I noticed that when my hair dried with a little conditioner on it I could actually see where it looked like the water and conditioner mix tried to run down a strand of hair but got stuck and dried there. So I have to shampoo once a week.

Yea, I have problems with an itchy scalp caused by buildup. I did the no shampooing thing for about a year and a half, and I cant do it any longer. The apple cider and lemon juice rinses and mixes removed SOME buildup, but not all of it

I cant do the conditioner thing in my hair anymore either because it dries it out

Yeah, At first I though it was because I wasn't scrubbing my scalp long enough but I realized the more I did the CG method, the more my scalp itched. I also tried the apple cider and lemon juice rinses but to no avail was my scalp satisfied.

ew im sorry i could never do CG. i guess it just doesnt work well for people who do sports. ur either sweaty or dirty or chlorine-infested. i dont think i could do it anyway, unless i like soaked my hair for an hour in warm water and lemon juice every week.. lol but then ud end up having lighter hair. thatd be weird... then again.. i should try it... lol sry.. seriously tho has anyone tried soaking their hair for a while in warm water with lemon juice?

I tried eliminationg shampoo completely but could only do so for about a month. Now I have gone back to shampooing either once a week or every two weeks depending on what I've used on my hair or how it feels. I do use sulfate free shampoos though, but in agreement with shygirl it really just depends on what's best for you and your hair.

Same as everyone else. I pretty much shampoo once a week or every other with a non sulfate poo and my hair loves it.

ive learned that the no poo method gives greatest results when styling product use is minimal. when i first tried CG, it wasnt enough b/c i was using gel, pomade, and cones. when i cut all that out, the routine proved itself a holy grail. i totally agree that there is no rule book for haircare! :P

You know I didnt do the CG method very long because I was still using cones for styling. So while looking for a good condishioner I found Eluence Shampoo which is great great wonderful fantasitic and great! I used CON but it didnt leave me feeling clean.

Elucence leaves me clean and not stripped.. If you want to wash your hair but CON doesnt quite do it for you.. try elucence.

I am mostly CG and I work out at least 4 times a week. I shampoo not because of sweaty scalp, but just because of the one cone I still use. I think people who play sports/exercise can do CG.

In fact, it's almost even more desirable to do CG if you swim, as shampoo just exposes the hair to yet another chemical in addition to drying chlorine.

    'Poo pooer here.

I tried CG, but my sensitive skin and scalp freaked out. Now I do a modified CG and give myself "dry shampoos". (My old stylist used to do this to my hair when I was little whenever I had dandruff problems.)

Essentially, you "grease" your scalp with shampoo while it's dry; wet your hands and massage your scalp; then rinse with lukewarm water. I use Carol's Daughter Rosemary Mint Detangling Shampoo. I like the tingling sensation.

I only do the CG routine if I'm not using any styling products that week.
