I'm a new mother with a 3 month old daughter who is bi-racial - 1/2 filipino and 1/2 african american, she has type 3a hair... i have recently changed my own shampoos and conditioners to those that contain more natural elements in them and i really would like to do the same for her. I have been using JOhnson's and JOhnsons's shampoo but was wondering wat are the best natural shampoos for baby's and also is conditioner necessary...meaning should we be caring for our curlies hair as our own...w/ conditioners , moisturizers and such at such an early age???!!

personally, i don't think that newborns' and infants' hair needs anything more than a mild shampoo and a natural oil.

here is a product that we used on our babies: http://californiababy.com/super-sensitive-shampoo-bodywash-8-5-oz.html.

i wasn't impressed with their conditioner, and the detangling spray was wretched on my babies' 3c-4a curls and waves.

the great thing about this product is that it doubles as a bath wash. so you can put a squirt into your baby's wash basin and cleanse her from head to toe.

i only bathed our infants about twice a week. on the in-between days, i sponged them down from head to toe on the changing table or our bed with a bowl of warm water and a drop or two of baby wash. i only used literally a couple of drops of the california baby wash to sponge, bathe, and shampoo them. i didn't want a burst of lather, just enough product to soften the water and cut the oil and debris on their scalp, hair, and skin. at three months, they aren't getting that dirty that they'd need to be emersed in a froth of lather. that would be too drying to their skin, no matter how mild or natural the product.

and i used sweet almond oil to condition the ends of their hair and also soothe dry cradle cap patches on our daughter's scalp. it is a natural, odorless, light oil that we used the same way people use johnson's baby oil. after a bath, i massaged the oil onto their whole bodies. this oil was great at keeping their bottoms diaper-rash-free.

    hope this helps.

i used burts bees baby shampoo bar. its tear free and natural. plus it so easy to use.

at that age i didnt need to use conditioner (or anything else) on my daughter's hair. her hair was stick straight and became very greasy by the end of each day.

I just bought Nature's Baby shampoo and conditioner. I bought Vanilla and Tangerine b/c I have a girl and a boy and with boys I've read it's better to avoid Lavender and Tea Tree Oil. I really like it.

When I lived in Hawaii, we had this old school type of pediatrician who recommend a natural oil as moisturizer for hair and body b/c my son got ezcema, colic and cradle cap early. Used after washing, we did Coconut Oil or Olive Oil. For hair & body, we used unscented castile soap or an unscented little-to-no chemicals baby soap. They weren't tear free, so we were super careful when washing hair & face. Used super tiny amount in bowl of water & washed with cotton baby wash towel or in little baby bathtub with the wash towel. I think my son was 2 when we started putting conditioner on his head, and it was a baby one mixed with Olive Oil.

Did you know that you could massage jojoba oil into the hair and scalp and rinse with clean water?

Its oil is highly regarded as an effective conditioner, moisturizer, cleanser and softener for the skin and hair.

thank you for sharing this! during the time when our infant daughter had cradle cap, we didn't use a cleanser on her scalp; we rubbed olive oil onto her scalp, let it loosen up the dead skin, wiped it away with a warm bath cloth or infant brush. her scalp and hair were clean and the oil reversed the cradle cap.

i want to add that i do what is called the oil-cleansing method of cleansing my face and neck. it involves only sweet almond oil and a very warm bath cloth. i haven't washed my face with a traditional cleanser or soap in almost a year and my skin is clean and clear, so the idea of cleansing an infant's scalp with oil makes perfect sense.

Ah, it's kinda like a Roman Olive Oil Bath. Neat.

I used to wash with oil around my eyes only, but I switched to using honey as the skin feels softer to me afterwards. But, maybe I'll try your method and use a lighter oil next time, lol, and maybe I';ll try it for my kids' faces.

Sorry for my thread hijacking.:toothy1: :love5::sign6:
