Products to use that aren't gel

So i have finally figured out what was wrong with my hair....gel. However I do need something in my hair to clump the curls and provide definition, but i don't think i can use gels...any ideas on what i can use?

I still don't know what was causing the greasiness, but i water washed my hair this morning and put in some biolage conditioning balm to rinse out, and i'm just letting my hair dry, and its a lot softer than its been while i've been using gel.

Any suggestions would be wonderful!

You could try a curl cream! I don't have much experience with them, but I'm sure someone else will chime in.

Pink Boots and FOTE both give me great clumps! I use them under a gel for hold. If you can get your hands on some Boots, it's definitely worth it!

I don't know where i can find Boots, I'm in Canada. I have FOTE, and it works ok the only thing i don't like is that it feels like its drying out my hair (like it becomes squeeky), but when it dries its ok.

Are there any recommended curl creams that i can either buy in a store, or online?

I've used and really like KMS curlup creme and I am going to also try the ISO Bouncy Creme soon - the KMS is good for clumping and has a decent hold as well. There is a new cream, but it has silicones if you are avoiding them -- it's the tigi foxy curls creme.

Have you tried mousse? I generally can't get away with gel either, there's only one I've tried that I like and use regularly. Mousse is better, I use Joiwhip.

i was using the giovanni mousse but it doesn't have as good of a hold, plus i used to use mousse before going CG and found that it tended to dry out my hair, past what shampooing did

I'm having some great results from the [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Jessicurl-Confident-Coils-Styling-Solution-p-116.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=jessicurl-confident-coils-styling-solution]Jessicurl Confident Coils[/buylink]. It's not a gel, it's more like a lotion formula. It's been leaving my hair really soft, but with really defined curls.

I find that flax seed gel (just made some this weekend) gives me great curls. If you want to buy a product, recoil works amazingly well with some Biolage gelée on top, or another cocktail I like is Aveda Phomollient with BeCurly (I think the BeCurly is not CG though)...

hockeymomof3 - Can you tell us more of the KMS curl creme? I have two bottles of it from a friend. How do you use it?
