Honey Reaction

GreatcurlsGreatcurls Registered Users Posts: 1,784 Curl Connoisseur
Many people have posted that their hair does not like honey. I have used products with honey in them, but I do not know if my hair reacts to honey. So...

If your hair is sensitive to honey, what is the reaction?

If your hair loves honey, what is the reaction?

Thanks in advance for your response!:happy3:

When I tried the honey and olive oil homemade conditioner, my hair instantly hardened upon application even though my hair was somewhat softer after rinsing. That didn't seem like an appropriate reaction, so I've stayed away from honey ever since.

In the Summer I get nicely defined and soft hair using honey in my condish and doing Honey Rinses. It makes me curlier so I LOVE IT. This time of year it makes me SUPER frizzy and/or stringy. I can take it in very small doses like in the DMHJ or in BB's FSG.

The same thing happens to me but the end results are great so I keep using the olive oil & honey mixture on my hair.

my hair adores honey/molasses. it makes it all pretty, and after using it, i don't even need other products in my hair. it makes it shinier (i usually use molasses, because it seems to make dark hair shinier, but honey basically does the same thing.) i would post a picture of what it looks like afterwards (i do half condtioner/half sticky stuff) but i'm not entirely sure how!

My hair likes honey, in moderate doses. but when i started adding too much in my fsg my hair got really stringy and crunchy to the point i couldn't SOTC even using oils. but as long as it is balance, it makes my hair shiny, and more curly when in my conditioner. my hair just doesn't like honey left in.
But as for my fsg, the agave nectar works much better. i have no idea why.

I used honey for like a month, I was mixing it with my conditioner letting it sit for a few mins then rinsing. I didnt like the fact that it lighted my hair a lot, I have highlights that I am trying to go out so I up a color ontop of it , and now my highlights are showing in certain parts of my hair, sooo not cute!! so I stopped using the honey.

For those of you who use honey, do you use the smooth golden kind you get in the bears or do you use the raw/organic kind?

I am using the cheapest one ever, and my hair loves it. Mixed with conditioner (tiny drop),and a drop in my leave in makes wonders. My hair is growing out it's natural colour and the honey helped me a lot,it made light brown from blueish black. I love it. It's almost my natural hair colour,so the different is so small between my roots and my ends. I keep doing it,I don't mind if it's lightening my hair, because of the softness and curl definition it gives me.
    And hey,it's all natural,thanks bees! :love3:

How does honey react to hair porosity? I have high porosity, so would I have to use more, less, or mix it with something?

I'm new and not an expert. I read on this post on live curly live free (I think)
    http://livecurlylivefree.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=humectants&action=display&thread=77
that humectants are sensitive to dew points. Humectants are like moisture magnets. In high humidity they get moisture from the air. In low humidity humectants can't get moisture from the air because it isn't there and they steal it from your hair.
