Spinoff: United States of Tara - Spoilers...maybe

Reading the Borderline Personality thread reminded me of this new show on Showtime.

Tara has three distinct personalities plus her 'real' personality, so four personalities.

Tara
Buck - 30 to 40-something redneck man
T - 15 or 16 year old girl
Betty Crocker (I forget her name) - 50s housewife

It was kind of interesting, yet kind of sad watching how her different personalities affect her family.

Did anyone watch?

Borderline personality disorder is nothing like multiple personality disorder...just to clear things up there.
Many people think schizophrenia and multiple personality disorder are the same too...they are not.

I saw a clip of this show...the guy from Northern Exposure (forgot his name) was on a talk show and was promoting this show.
What did you think of the show? I didn't see it.

No, multiple personality has not been discredited. Our minds can have psychotic breaks and do all sorts of strange and bizarre things if our genetics and circumstances align accordingly (genetic predisposition to mental health disorders and an extremely traumatic experience). They are very rare, but it can happen.
TV does a horrible job portraying it, just like with anything else, but it's real.
That's right, I said it! I wear scrunchies!!

I am a sulfate washing, cone slabbing, curly lovin' s.o.b. The CG police haven't caught me yet.

Yes! I couldn't recall that personality's name. For some reason, she reminds me of Betty Crocker.

Sorry to Sleigh(?) about confusing multi personalities w/borderline personalities.

    i watched it yesterday -

it did feel like they cartoon-ized her mental illness at times.

HOWEVER, i do like how it showed someone with a mental illness, living in the real worlds with a family. her family was also very supportive of her - it was sweet.

I like Toni Collette and I love Spielberg, so it's a perfect pairing. I saw (the first) 3 eps tonight and liked them. Most of the acting was very good.

TC amazes me how she can shapeshift for a role. She gains weight, loses it, gains it back. Muriel's Wedding, Sixth Sense and now this...I think it's all for her roles anyway. I hope it's not for other (unhealthy) reasons.
