jessicurl or devacurl???

Ok so, I've just started out with CG and have definately got more waives and curls in my hair BUT also more frizz...

As there is a distinct lack of good curly products here in Switzerland I orderd the sample set from Devacurl (no-poo, one-condition, anGell and set it free) as well as the sample set from Jessicurl ([buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Jessicurl-Too-Shea-Extra-Moisturizing-Conditioner-p-105.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=jessicurl-too-shea-extra-moisturizing-conditioner]too shea[/buylink]!, [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Jessicurl-Aloeba-Daily-Conditioner-p-104.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=jessicurl-aloeba-daily-conditioner]Aloeba Daily conditioner[/buylink], gentle lather shampoo, [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Jessicurl-Awe-Inspiraling-Spray-p-102.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=jessicurl-awe-inspiraling-spray]awe inspiraling spray[/buylink], [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Jessicurl-Confident-Coils-Styling-Solution-p-116.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=jessicurl-confident-coils-styling-solution]confident coils styling solution[/buylink] and [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Jessicurl-Gelebration-Spray-p-101.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=jessicurl-gelebration-spray][buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Jessicurl-Gelebration-Spray-p-101.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=jessicurl-gelebration-spray]gelebration[/buylink] spray[/buylink]).

So now, my question is, which set should I start with??? :dontknow: I'm about 4 days in CG, and feel a little lost... Also, I wonder if perhaps Jessicurl will be a bit too dry for me right now, its winter, cold, windy. icy rain and snow...

Any advice PLEASE???

I'd try the DevaCurl first. Jessicurl can be drying for some people due to the magnesium sulfate in it.
That's right, I said it! I wear scrunchies!!

I am a sulfate washing, cone slabbing, curly lovin' s.o.b. The CG police haven't caught me yet.

Some people have build-up problems with the a-cone, and some don't. It really depends. If you do use it and run into that problem, you'll have to remove it with at least a low-poo.

Ok well here is what I did,

I used the no-poo from Devacurl, then the [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Jessicurl-Too-Shea-Extra-Moisturizing-Conditioner-p-105.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=jessicurl-too-shea-extra-moisturizing-conditioner]too shea[/buylink] from jessicurl to condition followed by the two styling products: [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Jessicurl-Confident-Coils-Styling-Solution-p-116.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=jessicurl-confident-coils-styling-solution]confident coils[/buylink] and [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Jessicurl-Gelebration-Spray-p-101.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=jessicurl-gelebration-spray]gelebration[/buylink].

Result: Not enough hold but very soft hair :)
So this morning I used the Set it free on YUK! Sticky waxy...Unfortunately I don't have the time to start over :(

So far I've done 1 week of CG and I'm not sure I like it, I know I should give it 3 weeks but now, my hair is poofy, its fluffy and not defined curls (in comparison to my avatar picture only waivy) Its as if I've been brushing my hair...

I wonder, as I'm applying product I find that the back of my hair has tangles in it, should I use more conditioner??

You might be reacting to the magnesium sulfate.
When my hair gets too soft and hard to style (undefined, frizzy), it's time to clarify.
It doesn't have to be an either-or. Some people think you have to be CG 100 percent and never shampoo again...and if that doesn't work then you can't be CG at all.
I think alternating is probably a good idea for you. Try shampooing with a sulfate once a week and maybe a low poo in between sulfate washing. Then you can CO wash or no wash the other days.
Of course, others will disagree. If you want to try strict CG, then there are other ways to handle it. Some suggest baking soda, but I find that more drying and more damaging than a sulfate shampoo.
    Good luck!

I compared the ingredients of both lines, and didn't like the silicones that were in Deva products, so I went for Jessicurl and haven't regretted it.

I use jessicurl, but the main reason is I can't buy deva anywhere around here

Did your sample set of Jessicurl not come with [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Jessicurl-Rockin-Ringlets-Styling-Potion-p-100.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=jessicurl-rockin-ringlets]Rockin' Ringlets[/buylink]? That's usually the basis of their regime and it controls frizz - their recommendation is RR on very wet hair right out of the shower followed by either [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Jessicurl-Confident-Coils-Styling-Solution-p-116.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=jessicurl-confident-coils-styling-solution]Confident Coils[/buylink] or Gelebration, with the latter giving the lighter hold for finer and/or less curly hair that's easily weighed down.

I'd think if your avatar is pre-CG and you're curlier now that you'd probably need to use the RR/CC combo. I love it but can't use it regularly because the mag sulfate or something give me zits in and around my hairline. My hair does about the best with it of anything though, so I still use it occasionally when I need to be pretty sure of a good hair day. I've never been able to use it long enough to know if the mag sulfate would dry me out like it does some.

All that said, Devacurl ArcAngell is regularly in my rotation of gels. I didn't like the regular Angell that came in the little set - not enough hold and it frizzed. I like [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/DevaCurl-One-Condition-p-55.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=devacurl-devacurl-one-condition]Deva One Condition[/buylink]er, but not well enough that I bought more after I used up the travel set, same for the no- and low-poos. I got some Set It Free with my diffuser, which I use to refresh the curl when I've mussed them putting it in an updo. However, I know I'm going to have to wash it soon after because the beeswax in it makes it gunky feeling. Sometimes I've worn it up a second day, but I certainly couldn't wear it down again after using it.

I use [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Jessicurl-Awe-Inspiraling-Spray-p-102.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=jessicurl-awe-inspiraling-spray]Awe Inspiraling Spray[/buylink] sort of the same way. But it also leaves enough residue and tackiness that once I use it, I couldn't wear it down again. And I'm only using a few spritzes of either spray - not a great deal.

Check out the Jessicurl site for tips on using their products.

I've used both of their products over the years and like them both sometimes. I think it depends on the season for me. The Jessicurl doesn't do much in the way of hold for me. I need to put it on when my hair is still pretty wet in the shower.

I also found that if I had buildup at all, then the Deva didn't work. Did you clarify with a ACV rinse or I used to use a mixture of lemon juice and conditioner which I also liked.

I'd use the No Poo only once a week, the 1Conditioner and the Angell for quite awhile. I think ideally when you use the No Poo and the conditioner, your hair should feel kind of like seaweed or at least it did for me and I knew it would turn out well.

The Angell doesn't have a whole ton of hold for me either though. I went and had my hair cut at the Deva salon and they just told me I wasn't using enough...Of all the products I've used though, I did get the best 2nd day hair from the angell. That is until this morning, after I made soem of the homeade FSG!!!

Don't get frustrated, it's worth it. I've been a CG since 2002 and I'm still experimenting with products.

    Kim
Type...actually not sure. It looks 3A/2BC but it has some very straight fine hair with some very kinky curly coarse hair and ends up looking 3A...

    CG since October 2002
Currently using Bioterra Recondition or LPVNG
Just made some homeade FSG and LOVE it!

Have used Jessicurl, Deva products but am on a mission to care for my hair in a budget friendly way!

I've used both but far prefer the Kinky Curly products to both of them.

    M
3A, fine but thick, low porosity, low to medium resilience, protein sensitive but not to silk

Favorites: Anything from Curly Kinks...their system is my new holy grail. Still liking Juice Organics Orange and TJ Refresh Conditioners as all purpose co-wash and rinse outs.

    Thanks guys!!

All good tips and will persevere... I think I have product buildup because now I don't really get much curl at all, my hair is ultra curly wet and then just ends up lank stragithish and puffy (not curly just super fluffy) If I tie it back, it goes pretty straight.

So, I think I'll do a thorough shampoo.. perhaps the gel or conditioner I was using before getting the little kits was not so good...

So just a quick question, do you guys just wet your hair every morning or apply conditioner as well???

I always go at least 2 days and usually 3-4 without wetting. On those days, in between cowashing or low-pooing, I pick my hair out a bit to see how it's doing and usually end up spritzing it, first upside down then rightside up, with a 50/50 aloe/water mist, scrunching it through to reactivate the curl and product, then allow it to dry completely, scrunch out any crunch, and I'm usually good to go, although some days I follow with some Tweek, too - less frequently than I used to.

I have been using the DevaCurl 3 step process for a few weeks now and my curls have never looked so good.
I would say consistency with whichever routine is key to see how the products are doing.
again, I prefer DC over JC.
