Jeffrey at Devachan?

I have used Ana at Devachan for a few years and I love her, but she was supposed to be leaving this month. She recommended Jeffrey but I'd like to hear from anyone who has actually used him.

Is Ana leaving Devachan in the city to help open another one or is she leaving the salon altogether?

She is leaving to travel for several months. Lorraine has offered Ana her job back when she returns if she wants it.

I had a cut with Jeffery in July and was not happy. Granted, I didn't want alot of length taken off so there was not much he could do, but when he was explaining to me what he wanted to do he lifted up some sections and said something about just getting rid of it, cleaning things up etc So I was under the impression that he was actually planning on doing quite a bit of work on my hair. Holding up sections and saying "get rid of it" to me meant that he'd be cutting that area short, I was expecting layers, and quite a few of them. Which I was okay with, I decided I'd give him free range, so I said okay.

He said he'd cut first, then I'd get a wash and then he'd cut a few more things after the wash. Anyway, turns out that the cut involvded snipping a few pieces here and there, same with after the wash. I paid $100 for a trim that I could have got pretty much anywhere... I have no idea what he meant by "getting rid" of those sections...

But one thing that I did like, was even though the actual cut only took a few seconds, it took longer because he would step back from my hair and think about what to do. That was the first time I saw someone seem so concentrated on a cut, but again, the results were disappointing. I came home and no one even knew I had gotten my hair done.

And I also didn't get a head massage...

Actually, I'd like to get a Devachan cut, too, probably some time next month. Since Enelya wasn't happy with Jeffrey, who else would NYC Curlies suggest? And how much can I expect to spend for that person?

i can HIGHLY recommend carlos flores, formerly of devachan!! he worked there over 10 years, used to travel and train other stylists in the deva method.
he is now at mario diab salon, only a block away from the broome st devachan (there are two devachans in soho).
carlos is truly great with curls and waves, knows hair, and is personable and will listen to you and teaches you all about your hair and how to take care of it. the salon is very serene. all in all, a wonderful haircut that lasts months and months, and a great experience. by the way, i pay less for a haircut with him now that he is at mario diab ($130) than when he was at devachan (they charged $135 for him).
look up the salon on this website (it is featured as a hot salon this month and is in the curlsalon finder) and read the reviews.
good luck and have fun if you decide to see carlos!

Thanks, rbb! Actually, I was just doing research on Carlos at the CurlSalon section based on his thread - I just posted in the "Carlos formerly of Devachan" thread to ask if I should go to him or to someone at Devachan, and you and I probably posted at the same time. But I'll take it from you - I got a cut from Katrina at Bumble and Bumble, and it was fine at first, but now my curls are all droopy. Since I'm new at CG, I don't know if it's what I'm using or my cut or the way I plop or what! Very frustrating, but I'd like to follow the lead of the Curlies here who have had great luck with their cuts and the way they do CG.

I highly suggest Aisha or Wendy at Salon Bohemia 437 7th Avenue, Brooklyn NY. For a cut and style I pay $60.

My friend also likes Rita @ Mousey Brown 732 Lorimer Street, Brooklyn NY you can expect to pay about the same, I believe.

Thanks!! Well she left Devachan and is currently out of her home (in Manhattan--Midtown East) where a corner of it is modeled like a mini hair studio. Due to this transition period (and not being at Deva) she can charge reasonably. :) Anyway if you'd like her cell phone number PM me. Since its a private number I don't want to post it here.

I really like Lois Stoeffhaas at Devachan. She started as a colorist and was promoted to full stylist about a year/year and a half ago. I used to see her when she was at another salon (she was Deva certified), but now I can't afford her :angry3:
NYC - but originally from Philly!

2c/3a - coarse texture, little volume - still experimenting!

i'd only consider using someone else if they were on long island as a once-in-awhile if i couldn't find the time to get into manhattan.
    thank you, tho.
