Liquid Keratin

Has anyone ever heard of or used the product Liquid Keratin? Apparently, it is a temporary straightener. I saw an ad for it in my InStyle mag that came in the mail yesterday. It is sold at Ulta. The starter kit is $69.00 and comes with a 4 oz straightener, and a 1 oz shampoo and conditioner. It is supposed to last about 6 weeks. I have 3c hair and would love to take out some of the curl. Any thoughts? Thanks.

    Yes, I have used LK

    it is GR8! i am a 3a.

LK allows me to flat iron to stick str8 in about 15 mins. when i let myhair air dry it dries in a fraction of the typical time with NO frizz! even in the rain and wind MY HAIR DOES NOT FRIZZ! it feels smoother, looks longer, and healthier. when i leave my hair curly it looks much more stylized too.

i will definitely be purchasing more of this treatment. my husband likes that it takes me a lot less time to "get ready" to go out!

My hair is really frizzy. I live in Florida and was at the beach last weekend. I wore my hair down for the first time ever and my hair stayed frizz free. I was shocked! Would totally recommend!

My husband even commented on my hair! That's a first!

... for those of you that have used it... the site recommends that you use it, straight iron and then don't wash hair for two days. Since I don't really want straight hair, but just want to loosen the curls, do I have to do this? I was just thinking about buying the leave in conditioner and using that.. will just doing that eventually straighten/loosen the curl over time...?

    Thanks

Wow, my stylist (colorist) anyway, she mentioned this product to me today when I went for a touch up, (it's an Ulta salon) she told me they were going to begin stocking this product...I'm a 3c/4a and I know she is a 3a/3b and she straightens her hair all of the time, so she told me she's ready to use it, she's convinced me to maybe try it, and now seeing this post I think I"m going to go for it...

I am going to go to Ulta this weekend and check it out. I really want it, but it is a little pricey. I really want looser curls. For a correction, I checked the hair types and I am actually a 3b, not 3c. Anyway, for the poster who said she didn't want completely straight hair (I don't either)-the ad I saw in InStyle mag said that your hair will still have some wave, just no frizz. So it is easy to straighten or wear wavy. I love that! I really hope this product works like it says. PJSMOM, that gives me hope that your stylist wants to use it too! Thanks for sharing. :) If anyone else uses this, please let us all know how it works!

the LK treatment just cuts down the time it takes to style your hair. my hair is so silky and easy to style now.

My hair is still curly if i want it to be (but better because i have NO frizz)! when i decide to straighten it, i just use the serum and an iron and it takes only minutes rather than almost an hour without the treatment. i think the kit is totally worth the $$ and the two days without washing, etc.

I have been wrestling with my hair for 30+ years. this product is what i have been waiting for because it actually improves my hair, unlike other treatments that damage while straightening. i hope this helps you take the plunge! you will love it!!

I also just saw the ad in INSTYLE. I have a 3a/3b type curl and I always blow my hair out straight in the dryer winter months. I live in NY so in the humid summers we have here, its a losing battle and a waste of time to blow it out straight, so I let it go curly in the summer. I am totally curious about this product though. Like some of the other posts, I too only want to loosen and de-frizz my curl to be more like a 2a/2b type. I hate the look of stick straight, ironed hair. I'm wondering if this stuff really works. I feel like I've tried everything and either it doesn't work, or you come out with un-natural looking results. I went to their website www.liquidkeratin.com and I watched the video. When you look at the model in the demo video and they show her before with curly frizzy hair, it almost looks like shes wearing a wig and she probably has naturally straight hair underneath. So I'm a bit skeptical. I'd like to hear more reviews before I take the plunge.

So yesterday I broke down and bought the 30 day kit at Ulta and here is my review.

First, the treatment is a spray treatment. Which I found annoying and my hand started to cramp from trying to saturate my hair. The instructions also did not say how much of the treatment to use. However, I did notice that as I continued to comb through and then put on more treatment, my hair continued to get softer.

I let the treatment stay on 30 mins as per the directions. Then I blow dried my hair as per the directions. However I didn't flat iron because I don't have a flat iron. Also, I didn't leave the treatment in my hair as per the directions just because I really don't like my hair that straight. I left the treatment in about 3 hours.

Washed it out and used the rinse out and leave in conditioner.

The main thing I notice is that my hair is noticeably softer and less frizzy. It's really not that much straighter when I let it dry naturally (maybe about 10% straighter). However, that could be because I didn't keep in the treatment for the 48 hours. Even when I put in my styling products -- i.e. BHRG -- which usually has some crunch, there was no crunch.

So since they say it has immediate benefits and long term benefits I'll continue to use the conditioners to see if my hair gets any straighter, or just stays softer and less frizzy.

For those of you that are sensitive to smell, you may have an issue with this product. I personally don't think the smell is bad, but I could see some folks having an issue with it if they are sensitive to smell. Also, you are not supposed to use products with sodium chloride when you are using the liquid keratin products. I guess the sodium chloride breaks down the keratin..? Not 100% sure.

Long story short, I like that my hair is softer and like that it's less frizzy. I'll see how long this lasts just using the conditioning products.

    ok
to answer some of the questions about LK

    1. your hair will NOT be stick str8. it will be smoother, softer, longer and your curl will be more defined

    2. you definitely have to iron the treatment in for best and longest benefits. its the heat that seals it(think of how you use a deep conditioner..the heat and the length of time it stays in prolongs the effects)

    3. all the products are meant to be used as they are free of sodium chloride. sodium chloride takes the treatment out, so i bought the other products separately along with the kit.

    4. i used too much of the treatment the first time because i put it on my hair when it was still damp. next time i will dry my hair thoroughly before spraying it in so i dont use too much. i left it in for the 48 hours but my hair was limp cuz i used too much...but not anymore!! it is full, soft and NOT FRIZZY EVEN IN THE NORTHWEST WEATHER!!

    5. the treatment smells okay, the other products have a clean, soapy smell

    6. LK shortens the time it takes to style my hair, and i have to use VERY small amounts of styling products. basically, i feel like i have more choices of how to wear my hair now with VERY little effort and time to make it look good. it air dries faster, it blow dries faster, it flat irons faster. it feels and looks better than ever! and i am in my 40s!

good luck! i am definitely going to keep using this treatment! I hope other retailers start carrying it that are closer to my house!! : )

It’s all about the flat ironing …from the moment the flat iron touched my hair, my hair was flat, smooth and soft. Not just at the ends, the roots are also straight.Dead straight! No treatment I have ever used has done that before. I have very curly hair and I am of Caribbean/Latin decent. I have flat ironed my hair from that puffy dry state before and my hair never looked or felt like this. It tamed my hair! I'm sold

I was wondering if you had to continue to use the de-frizz shampoo and conditioner after the entire treatment
is finished. I watched the instructional video and it says that it works for 16 washes, but do you have to use
their products for those 16 washes?
  • woodywoody Posts: 21Registered Users
the shampoo, conditioner, serum, etc. extend the life of the treatment. they smell great and they make my hair soooo smooth. i am used to expensive hair products, but none make my hair this smooth with no frizz (whether i am going curly or flat ironing). if you use products with sodium chloride in them the treatment washes out faster, so that is why the shampoo and other products are the best to use for longest and best results.

    Hi there:

I wondered if this treatment is safe for color or bleached hair? I have a pretty heavy blond foiling every 3 months. My colorist uses Lanza bleach products.

I saw this Liquid Keratin in In Style today and just wondered if it leaves lines of demarcation when your hair grows out, or if it just wears off and becomes curly again.

I don't want it to cause breakage on top of my hilights...Anyone know?

    Thank you.

I have 2a hair, and was doing the salon Brazilian Treatment for months. It was very expensive but gave great results. I had to stop because of the expense so when I found this product I was really excited.
I have color treated hair, and this product is absolutely the best. My hair is soft and straight. You must not wash your hair for 48 hours, and a straight iron with temp of 450 has to be used. I was scared to death to touch my hair with that heat (but knew that they did the high heat at the salon when I got the Brazilian). Not one problem, as indicated on the instructions your hair is protected.
You can curl your hair, straighten your hair, what ever you desire. But......YOU MUST USE THE SHAMPOO & CONDITIONER OTHERWISE THE TREATMENT WILL IMMEDIATELY DISAPATE. I have some of the old Keratin shampoo and conditioner from my days of the Brazilian which I am going to use. It actual is cheaper than the Keratin.
You will love what the keratin does to the hair. I am so excited to be able to go back having this treatment without the expense. (Brazilian Treatment at the salon in my area is $250 and last approx. 3 months.)
    Good Luck!!!!!!!!:laughing5:

i have lots of highlights too but have had no problems. i thnk what makes this product so gr8 is that it has in no way damaged my hair. it has only improved my hair! i did try using a different shampoo and conditioner one day to see the difference, and there definitely is a big difference! so i am going to buy the full size shampoo, conditioner, etc FOR SURE.

I tried the starter kit last night, I was very impressed with my blowdrying and straightening. I have color so the only thing I noticed was my color appeared to darken, I'm not happy with that...but my hair is soft and feels really smooth and shiny.

Ok, I am freaking out about this product. I've wanted to do the Copolla treatment for awhile, but couldn't even consider it because of the pricetag. This stuff sounds like everything I've ever wanted.

Ladies who've used it...keep us updated about what you think!

    hi there

You know that's good to hear...I still have another day to go b4 doing any washing, and my color doesn't look bad, but I know it's not as light as it was previous...after reading your post I feel a little better, I'm hoping it will go back after I wash it again. Thank you!

Just to add as well, I think I did have a slight reaction, my neck in the back did start to get irritated (small rash) I should have probably done some type of patch test, but I didn't...I do tend to be sensitive in the neck area regardless, so maybe it is just me.

Washed my hair for the first time since I applied the treatment and my hair is awesome. Same as if it was done in the salon. The smell is bit different, but worth it for the results I have achieved.
They don't mention this in the directions, but from what I learned from the Brazililan are.....for the first 48 hours....do not put your hair behind your ears, wear any kind of ties or clips in your hair, and if you get any kinks, curls or get it wet, blow dry and use your straighter immediately. Best to color hair same day but color first. If not, color hair 2 weeks after treatment.
It will make your hair healthier......and on humid days you will just love it........

Ahh I broke yesterday and ran out to Ulta and bought the kit. I now have to wait until next weekend to use it though, because I can't keep my hair down at work and don't want to ruin the results by pulling it back during my 48 hours on Monday and Tuesday so it will have to wait until next Friday night. It's killing me.

Question though: I'm taking inventory on my haircare products. If they have sodium chloride in it, will it just say "sodium chloride" on the label or is sodium chloride in any other chemicals? I checked my Biolage shampoo and condish and neither of them have it in it, unless it's in another chemical. Moisture Block is okay too, as its just pure dimethicone and another cone that I can't recall off the top of my head.

Oh and how many uses do you guys get out of one box of treatment. The treatment bottle is rather large compared to the shampoos and condishes so I thought there may be 2 uses in there. And can you buy the treatment seperately? I noticed full size bottles of the other products at Ulta but not the treatment.

I would not use any other shampoo products than the keratin products. They sure don't give you too much shampoo and conditioner in the kit. As stated, I use the Brazilian Keratin shampoo and conditioner from my old treatment and it works great. It cost $50 ea. for a 32 oz. shampoo and conditioner, which should last you a long time.

I also noticed the beauty supply store that I buy from carries this product. icon7.gif

You all have me VERY interested in this product. CurlyBrunette, you have the same type of hair as I do, and I noticed you use the maxiglide, too. Do you plan to use the maxiglide with is product? I was wondering if it will clog up the holes...

I am now very interested in this product too. I also was wondering if you could use the maxiglide as that is what I have as well. Has anyone ever used Phytospecific Relaxer and can compare the two products. I worry if I did the Phytospecific Index 1 about five months ago if it would be okay to try the Liquid Keratin? Or how long I should wait until I try it? My main problem is trying to find two days that I can wear straight hair and not be bothered by it! I hate my hair stick straight, but that what it seems like you need to do to get this product to work. If anyone has experience with Phyto and this, I would love to know.

i just bought the full sizes of the LK shampoo, conditioner, leave in, and serum. it is very reasonably priced and now i will have enough until i do another treatment. i think the treatment in the kit is enough for two shoulder length treatments. i definitely used too much the first time. i hope the treatment will be available for purchase separately! i L-O-V-E this stuff! for me it is a life changing product! my curly head has never looked so defined and healthy, and my str8 hair has never been so fasat and easy to acheive. i never tried any chemical str8teners because they are so damaging. i am so glad i waited for LK! 40+years!!
