Anybody have a recipe for hair gel? I recently found one on a different site but it turned out awful.

Rinse:
ACV rinse
Detangler/Conditioner:
Oyin Handmade Greg Juice or Juices and Berries

search for flaxseed gel on this site and you should get some good recipes. Here's mine

2 tbs flaxseed to 1 cup of water
Bring to a boil and boil for around 10 minutes until you get some thickness. Strain seed out through a cheesecloth an dlet cool. Add a few drops of grapefruit seed extract and essential oil of your choice. Poor into a container and keep refrigerated.

    Thanks. :)

Now I'm confused. When I look at BB's recipe, it calls for 1/2 cup of flaxseed. Is there a difference in the gel with using only 2 tbs per cup of water?

    Okay, I am really frustrated.
I made some flaxseed hair gel last night, and everything was fine; until I got to the straining part.
It took me about an hour if not longer!
    I burned my hand.
    And it was extremely messy.
I wanted to throw it out the door screaming words at it I have never said, and go break someones neck.
Any easier way to strain it then with a cheese cloth?

I must admit I told my mom to buy my regular hair gel tomorrow.
I have tried a lot of gels, everything from La bella hair gel to Alba Botanica hair gel, and none work for me, it doesn't matter how cheap or how expensive. I always come back to Fantasia IC Hair Polisher Gel with Sparkle Lites. I mean I don't want to because I'm trying to find a vegan one, but I can't.

I use a large tea ball like this one:

    infuser%20ball.jpg

I use 1/4 cup flaxseeds because I like my gel somewhat thick and I also reuse them. I just take the ball out of the water and refrigerate it with the seeds still inside. I use it for 3 batches and then toss the seeds. Super easy cleanup.

I couldn't get my gel to strain either so I whisked in 2T of aloe vera juice- LOVE IT! I am gonna invest in one of those tea thingys now
No: heating tools, sulfates, cones, parabens
Co-wash: Suave naturals (coconut and ocean breeze) Acct baking soda to clarify as needed
DC: olive or almond oil with EO rosemary
Style: Homemade flaxseed gel with aloe vera juice, epsom salt, and EO rosemary and lavender. Exploring various conditioners to use with the tightly curly method
Want to try: adding different EO's to HFSG, growing out hair

You have to make sure that you get whole seeds, not milled seeds. (Learned this the really hard way):sad1:
    CurlyFireHorse
Hair: 2a or 3a (not sure), very porous and fine as frog hair
Day 1: Cowash and condition with AO GPB, ACV Rinse,
Co-Kra gel (this stuff is fantastic)

Day 2: KCKT, KCCC, plop, KCCC, plop again, air dry
Day 3: Curly Kinks Satin Roots, Coil Jam
Day 4: IAGirl's PT, KBB DT, FSG

Co-Kra gel is my own concoction of okra boiled in coconut milk. It is a cross between FSG and KCCC and leaves my hair very soft and shiny

I want to try this, I found a recipe, but, what I'm curious about , is do u have to refrigerate?
this recipe didn't mention it at all.
    1 table spoon flax seeds
3/4 cup water bring to boil, simmer 10 minutes or until gel thickens use like regular gel.

Does anyone make one that down't get refrigorated?
    just wondering........

Without some type of preservative, the FSG will spoil fairly quickly--a few days outside of the refrigerator and less then two weeks in the refrigerator. That was my experience. I made some and put a little citric acid and lavender EO in it. I checked it at two weeks out of refrigerator and it was fine.

ETA: Smelled my today. Two weeks and two days was too much!

    thank you for replying.
I think I am going to try using some flaxseed oil added to my co, and see how this works.
And maybe put some in a spray bottle with watered down co and try as a leave in.
I'm glad the gel is working for so many , but, I'm not real good making things like that, I get a little impatient.

I wouldn't! I made the mistake of buying flaxseed oil--it smells terrible! Doesn't have the same properties. My hair smelled horrible all day.

Flax seed gel is a curl enhancer with a little bit of hold. AVG provides moisture. If you look at most of the more natural products, they all have aloe vera pretty high up on the ingredient list.

yogawaves, glad I could spare you. There are lots of nice oils to add to your concoction. Is there anything your hair really likes--avocado, sweet almond, jojoba? There are all pretty reasonable and good to try. The conditioner, oil and water mix is usually more of a frizz fighter and not a curl enhancer like FSG. A lot of people like to smooth a little Japanese camellia oil on their canopy to smooth the frizz.

FWIW, I use a French Press Pot to strain the seeds from the gel. Then I throw the left overs in a plastic tub and freeze for the next time. I've gotten three uses out of my seeds so far.

I did use whole seeds. I have used up the hair gel (I love it!! Only thing is I seem to get weird build-up, but I just do the ACV rinse more often and it's fine) well I didn't use it up I made to much and it went bad, being refrigerated., I still haven't gotten anything different, so I have been going hair-gel-less (It makes me love hair gel when I go without it). I'm looking into that tea ball thingy.
