Spinoff: Sleeping with Earrings in?

PartyHairPartyHair Posts: 7,713Registered Users
I was surprised at how many of you in the diamond earring thread said you haven't taken your earrings out in forever. I can't imagine sleeping in earrings!

In fact, when I get home from work, the first thing I do is go in and take all my jewelry off, even my wedding/engagement rings. I can't sleep in ANY jewelry, much less pokey-back earrings!

I used to be able to sleep with stuff in, but I can't anymore.

Oh, not me. I gotta be totally free and naked to sleep properly. No jewelry, nothin.

I sleep with earring studs in...they're not diamond though!

I would never remember to put earrings on, otherwise. I hate mornings and it's a miracle that I walk out of the door with matching shoes as it is.

I'm not a morning person either, but I'd be less of one if I had to sleep with earrings in! Maybe my ears are too close to my head or something, but the backs poke me and it is SO uncomfortable.

Definitely can't sleep with earrings in. I take all my jewelry off before bed, if it hasn't been taken off before then. Used to wear rings, when I was first married, but now I wouldn't be able to get them off for my shower in the morning.

I don't even know I'm wearing them anymore

I also wear a diamond band on my thumb and a toe ring that I couldn't tell you the last time had come off!

My diamond stud earrings have screw posts, so I can loosen them up quite a bit before bed so they're not poking me, but not going to fall out either. If I'm not wearing the studs, I tend to wear tiny hoops that I also leave in for weeks at a time, and don't even need to loosen because they don't poke.

If I'm wearing any of my other earrings though, I take them off. All other jewelry comes off too.

I usually stick to the ones I can leave in long-term. Otherwise I find I'm inadvertently going earring-less for days at a time [like this whole week, for example, I just noticed].

Earrings are too fussy to put in in the morning. That's when I'm more likely to drop the little backing or the earring itself and have it roll behind the radiator or something.

ETA: Just read CC's post and realized that I do wear a toe ring 24/7. Like she said, after a while, you forget it's even there.

I'll sleep in studs, but never in dangles. That's just an accident waiting to happen, for me.

The only jewelry I can wear to bed is my wedding band. The earrings & other rings tore up the satin & silk pillowcases something awful.

I may forget to take my keys with me (all the way out to the car and no keys...didn't even realize I didn't lock the door!)...but I always remember to put in earrings.

When I travelled for work all the time, I took like 8 pairs of earrings with me every week so I would have a choice! :D

I used to be able to sleep in them, but now they poke me. I would never sleep with anything other than studs because they would probably fall out and get lost in the sheets or something.

I have three lobe piercings and my cartilage pierced. The top two sets of lobe piercings practically never come out... I think I've only taken them out a handful of times since they've been pierced. They are small cheap CZ's that I hardly even notice anymore. My cartilage stays in, too, but sometimes it hurts if I sleep on it wrong-- it's a small ring which presses into my ear sometimes and gets sore.

I don't wear earrings in my bottom lobe piercings all that much, but if I do they're probably big dangly earrings so I take them out before bed.

Me too. For me that means small to medium sized hoops (I have a ton). I can't sleep in studs.

I can sleep in hoops in a heartbeat, but not studs - they're too pokey for me. In general, however, I'm finding that the older I get the less I'm able to sleep in jewelry.

I can't stand having earrings in when I go to bed. I've tried to sleep with them before and I will lay awake until I decide they have to come out.

I slept with studs on once when I was younger, woke up with only one earring! I learned my lesson no earrings to bed.

I sleep with my my wedding rings, three bands on my index finger of the other hand, small hoop earrings, one stud earring, and my pendant that I made which I wear everyday.

I don't notice any of these things when I'm sleeping.

I CANNOT however sleep with socks on or the covers over my feet. My feet must be naked and they must stick out of the covers or I have like a weirdo claustrophobic freak-out attack.

Man, just thinking about my feet being under the covers is making me get a crick in my neck.

If I don't leave studs in, I would forget to put earrings in too, and then my holes will start to grow back. I have repunched the back of one hole before and have no desire to do it again.

They don't poke me or ever come out. I sleep with them and my wedding rings on and don't notice them at all.

I have a cartilage, and two lower lobe piercings and I have studs in all of them. I don't even notice they are in there. But, for sure no sleeping with dangles. I also can't stand sleeping with my wedding set on, my fingers get puffy at night and it drives me nuts. Also no watches! My friend never takes her watch off.
I am with Yagotta... no socks, naked uncovered feet please!

I wear studs in the top piercings in my ears, but the bottom ones have to be free to breathe.

As for lobe earrings, I usually wear studs and sleep in them and rarely change them. There are some I can't sleep in because the backs are too pokey, but I have standards that I can sleep in and then wear for months. I lost a back in my sleep a couple weeks ago, and it's the first time that's happened in years. But come to think of it, I also don't really sleep on my lobes anymore. I kind of shape the pillow around my ears, a habit I picked up during healing times for various cartilage piercings. If I wear anything fancy, like diamond studs or dangly anything, I won't sleep in them. I'll put my standard studs back in as soon as I take the others out.

I sleep in all my jewelry, though, except necklaces, and that's only kind of recent.
    Under construction.

I have 2 holes in each ear and I only change my earrings like once a year. And that's usually just to buy new ones and throw the old ones away. Ha, no, they aren't diamonds.

For people who change their earrings only once every six months or once a year, there is no buildup behind the earrings? My ears must be odd, because if I wear earrings for a week and then remove them, I have a bit of buildup in the clasp and around the base of the earring...but then again, my ears are strange and I probably shouldn't have them pierced in the first place.

I had to let the second hole close because my ears kept rejecting the earrings...not fun having an infected ear.

I no longer sleep or nap in earrings.

I used to sleep in stud earrings. For the first 6 or so weeks after having your ears pierced, you can't remove them at night anyway. I would never sleep with dangly earrings in though.

And Windflower, if I left my earrings in for a long time, I would get build up too. I also get hairs winding round the back of the earring.

Nope, I don't get any build up behind mine. Not sure if that's because my ears have been pierced for so long or what. I also never had any problems with my belly or nipple piercing so maybe my body just does well with holes, lol?

I don't sleep in earrings unless for some weird reason I forget to take them out which is very rare. I can get issues with earrings (nickel allergies) so if I sleep in them I am more prone to issues too. But I also don't like them poking at me.
