Terressentials Hair Detox

Warning, this is long so if you're not interested in the detox I won't be offended if you move on...:evil3:
After reading the chronicles of the Detox Divas, I wanted to get to know my real hair. No product, stripped of the bad stuff, face to face (or strand) to see what I was really dealing with. The idea of a detox made sense to me since I've done them for my body with great benefit. I will be recording my 7 day process for those of you who are interested.
Hair Profile
I have mostly 3b and some 3c curls. My texture is medium, I have medium porosity and it is thick. I haven't chemically colored my hair since August of '08 and I have done 2 henna treatments since then. I struggle with curl definition and shrinkage. I don't have the long flowing locks of a 2 or even a 3a. My 3b curls are tight spirals and my 3cs are No.2 pencil size. My hair is just past my shoulders when wet.
Detox Day 1
I wet my hair really well in the shower. In the first wash, I applied 3 TBLS of the TE Lavender Garden. I used the first measurement to the front and sides, the second measure to the top and back and the third at the nape and length of my hair. I smoothed it on first and then went to work on my scalp. I scrubbed my whole scalp and then, leaning to the right, left and forward, I gently “scrubbed” my hair in between my hands. I rinsed thoroughly and repeated but only had to use 2 TBLS in the second wash, (it seemed to distribute much easier) and rinsed well. After the third wash I left it in my hair while I finished the rest of my shower, shaving, washing, etc. When I was done, I rinsed, rinsed and rinsed again. And again.
While I was rinsing the last time, I was surprised that I could run my fingers through my hair with relative ease. I finished with a weak ACV rinse (1 TBL to 2 cups water), applied some homemade FSG and plopped. When I was applying the FSG, my hair felt hard and there was no way that I was going to even attempt to rake the FSG through. I would be content to scrunch some in all over and plop. I plopped with my Aquis MF towel for 5 minutes to get the bulk of the water out and then switched to my Curl-ease for 10 minutes.
When I took the plop down, my hair still felt a bit stiff. I smoothed a little FSG over the top and scrunched in an organic oil blend on the ends. I figured since it was certified organic, it would interact okay with the detox.
At 50% dry, I had canopy frizz that I have never had before. The length however, is a bit elongated and evenly clumped. Tried to add a little FSG in filtered water to the canopy but finally settled for a headband. I'm staying in tonight so no need to get fancy or perfect!
By the time it was completely dry, it was a bit poofy but with big bouncy curls. I can almost pull my fingers all the way through my hair. Hmmm.
I will update tomorrow.

Sounds like things went well. It is a new kind of experience and does feel odd at first. I was surprised at how much slip my hair had when rinsing out the cleanser.
Hang in there and let me know if I can answer any more questions. I will definitely be following along on your journey. :glasses1:

I put FSG in again and this time scrunched longer to distribute it more evenly and sealed with the John Master’s organic Hair Oil Blend. Again, my hair was a bit “hard” and I couldn’t run my fingers through my curls at all while it was wet.
Once dried, there was less “poof” than yesterday. I had great clumping (for me) and I touched it less while it was drying which could account for the lack of poof. Once my hair was dry, I could run my fingers through it pretty easily. Curls are light and a little bouncy.

I never got that kind of shine during the detox.

Favorites: Anything from Curly Kinks...their system is my new holy grail. Still liking Juice Organics Orange and TJ Refresh Conditioners as all purpose co-wash and rinse outs.
Memes -I thought I had to use the ACV rinse after each wash. Guess I misunderstood that. Great! I will drop that today for my day 3 wash.
It was less frizzy on day 2. It feels very slippery when it's dry, if that makes any sense. Slick, like my hand can slide down my hair very easily. Hard to explain, it just feels really different. I do miss conditioner though...

Today I did 2 washes according to the detox protocol. When I got ready to add my FSG my hair felt even “harder” than it had after the two previous washes. I could not get my fingers through it at all. I even skipped the ACV rinse today, thinking that might be causing some of the hardness. I scrunched the product in as best I could, hand blotted the wetness with my MF towel and plopped for about 10 minutes.
After it dried I went for a walk on the beach with a hat on so the pictures look a bit frizzier than the prior days, but considering my walk, hat and wind, it’s not too bad. Does the “hard” feel ever get better? It looks fine when it’s dry and softens enough for me to loosen the root curl at the scalp.
So far, I’ve seen no change in my color. I henna and my grays aren’t as dark as the rest of my hair but there has been no noticeable change to my overall color.
I really can't wait for this to be over.

Today I washed twice and didn’t put any product in my hair. It was still hard and tangled after rinsing. I was able to brush through it with my Denman as long as I was rinsing, but as soon as I stopped I had that God-awful texture to my wet hair.
The best I could do was to "arrange" my hair in the direction I wanted it to go, skip curl a couple of really frizzy spots and not look in a mirror.:sad11: It dried really soft, bouncy and BIG! Can’t wait to use products again.
My hair is pretty "naked" in these pics. I don't usually let anyone see my hair like this...

I can do just about anything for 7 days, but I really miss my hair with some slip in it. It is hard to get used to.:angry2:

My hair never got that hard either. You can always use a few drops of your favorite oil to run through your wet hair before applying your FSG. You can also scrunch in a few drops when your hair is fully dry.
In today's pictures, I scrunched in some FSG. I obviously missed the back of my hair pretty badly.:hmph: I did everything upside down today. Didn't want to manipulate the hair much. Again, though, the hair was heavy after my shower and while it was drying. I hardly touched it at all today.
Yes, I am only going to do one detox, so Wednesday will be my last wash. Hallelujah! Can't wait to put some slip back into these curls.
