Donna Marie Aloe & Honey Curl Jelly

ingredients: deionized water, aloe, irish moss, slippery elm, flaxseed gel extract, comfrey root extract, honey, hyualronic acid, hibiscus flower extract, xanthan gum, jojoba oil, shea oil, potassium sorbate, silver citrate and fragrance.

Are these some fabulous ingredients or what?

I tend not to do reviews after one use but I'm sorta liking this stuff. First of all it's kind of purple and I was concerned about the fragrance, but it dissipates very quickly even when hair is still wet.

This is a soft, wet gel Consistency resembles Angell or AO Mandarin Magic or a non-snotty [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Kinky-Curly-Curling-Custard-p-778.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=kinkycurly-curling-custard]KCCC[/buylink]. For me it gsbr great hold with no hardness. My hair is nice and coily at the ends, and feels smooth - that's to be expected when you put Irish moss, flaxseed and slippery elm in the same bottle. Donna Marie is just about unique in having a gel with these ingredients -- and hyaluronic acid -- and I think it's a good combination. I'll try to report back on day 2.

I used it over 3 leave-ins in 3 separate section of hair - Abba Nourishing, [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Kinky-Curly-Knot-Today-p-207.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=kinkycurly-knot-today-leaveindetangler]Knot Today[/buylink], and MopTop Conditioner. Under this I had KBB Hair cream on my ends.

I'm definitely loving this stuff myself. I didn't use it today since it was really windy and raining and I was afraid it wouldn't have enough hold but other than that I've been getting great results with it.

Mine is on its way, I can hardly wait to try it! I know it won't have enough hold on its own for me in this florida humidity and unpredictable weather, but it will be nice to pair with a good gel or the lock and twist.
The lock and twist makes my hair soft and shiny and surprisingly combats frizz quite well. I just ran out and am waiting for my order to come, I hate being w/o it b/c it's so versatile with its uses.

Have you tried the jelly on dry hair?

I tried it on dry hair Disco and loved it. I sometimes use a spray gel to tame frizzies but this worked better than my spray gels to combat that canopy frizz and it didn't get all tacky and sticky like others do. I also used it with the L&T and a pea size of BRHG and had fabulous results. Definitely a keeper!

This stuff gives amazing hold; I could easily dilute it with water or something. I mixed it with [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Kinky-Curly-Curling-Custard-p-778.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=kinkycurly-curling-custard]KCCC[/buylink] today just to soften it up a little and see how they would would together. They're very compatible. The silkiness of the [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Kinky-Curly-Curling-Custard-p-778.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=kinkycurly-curling-custard]KCCC[/buylink] plus that waxy smooth flaxseed feel. I can't wait to try it with twist and curl.

BTW my hair with the first use lasted for 3 days. Just washed it today.

To those who have tried the jelly - How does the hold compare to that of [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Kinky-Curly-Curling-Custard-p-778.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=kinkycurly-curling-custard]KCCC[/buylink]? I've noticed some people say they need a stronger hold gel over the DM Jelly, but those seem to be the same people who need a stronger gel over [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Kinky-Curly-Curling-Custard-p-778.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=kinkycurly-curling-custard]KCCC[/buylink] as well. I've never needed anything over [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Kinky-Curly-Curling-Custard-p-778.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=kinkycurly-curling-custard]KCCC[/buylink] for hold, so I'm wondering if the DM Jelly is similar in that regard.

Also, how goes drying time for this stuff, in comparison to other gels/curling creams? One of the reasons I'm considering it is because [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Kinky-Curly-Curling-Custard-p-778.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=kinkycurly-curling-custard]KCCC[/buylink] seems ty trap a lot of water in my hair and airdrying takes about ten years. Love the results, hate the ridiculous drying time.

I'm one of those who likes alot of hold but I would say this is similar to the hold of [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Kinky-Curly-Curling-Custard-p-778.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=kinkycurly-curling-custard]KCCC[/buylink]. I actually used the L&T and the Jelly with about a pea size of BRHG and had great results and it was enough hold for me. My thought is that it would hold about the same as [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Kinky-Curly-Curling-Custard-p-778.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=kinkycurly-curling-custard]KCCC[/buylink]. But does it crunch out once your hair is dry? SBB, you also mentioned in your last post that it leaves a "waxy smooth flaxseed feel." Did you mean it makes your hair feel product-y? Like slightly coated? I've used homemade flaxseed gel before, never felt waxy. I'm a fan of the feels-like-no-product-just-soft-hair feel. (sorry for all the goofy questions) Also, if anyone else wants to chime in on this, I'd appreciate it. :happy7:

It doesn't dry crunchy, it doesn't feel producty. For me that slightly coated feeling is just enough to make my hair feel soft and manageable.

I agree with Amy it works great on dry hair as well.

On the DM site she explains that if you want more "Hold" than you should use the CCB. I think it's more of a moisturizing leave-in/ curl enhancer than a Gel. I don't mind pairing it with BRHG since I have to layer products to get hold anyway this time of year. To me it feels like an oil but very light and it absorbs right away. It doesn't feel like [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Kinky-Curly-Curling-Custard-p-778.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=kinkycurly-curling-custard]Kccc[/buylink] or a Gel it's kind of hard to explain....

I haven't tried the jelly yet, my shipment is en route as I type this. I ordered another jar of the lock and twist b/c it gives such great curl formation, no product-y feel, great hold, soft and shiny curls. I get the best curls with the lock and twist, but that is the only DM product I have tried. I love it, I'm hoping the others are just as good or better. She did throw in samples of the hemp butter, cocoa butter, and the slip detangler. I ordered the jelly, the conditioner to try and a tub of the lock and twist b/c for the price and how versatile it is it really goes the distance.

If you are on the fence about ordering DM products opera curls I think you should try it, I don't think you will be disappointed. There is a learning curve though, I used WAY too much at first b/c I use more of the [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Kinky-Curly-Curling-Custard-p-778.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=kinkycurly-curling-custard]KCCC[/buylink]. I can use about 1/2 the amount of lock and twist.
I'm not one who needs tons of moisutre as I have porous thin hair and I get weighed down easily. I am going to try my sample of the cocoa curl butter and see how that holds with the jelly and then I may try the lock and twist with the jelly. I like hold, I need hold in this florida humidity. [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Kinky-Curly-Curling-Custard-p-778.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=kinkycurly-curling-custard]KCCC[/buylink] alone isn't enough but paired with CK and a tiny bit of gel over top is perfect.

No. When I made and used flaxseed gel, I noticed this feeling on my hair, compared to when I used [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Kinky-Curly-Curling-Custard-p-778.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=kinkycurly-curling-custard]KCCC[/buylink]. The Donna Marie felt the same way. Waxy may not be the right word because it denotes coated, but my hair didn't feel coated, just smooth and....sort of waxy, not a bad thing.

I had a sample of the Lock & Twist from Kathymack awhile back. I love it as a scrunch-out-the-crunch and frizz-smoothing product on dry hair, but it didn't do as great as a styling product on wet hair (pic/mini review in my Fotki). I definitely want to order a full-sized tub, so at this point I might as well wait for the aloe & honey jelly to be available again so I can try that as well.

Thanks for explaining, you ladies are all very helpful and wonderful.

Didn't get the new Honey & Aloe yet. I would be hard pressed to pick a favorite between the Lock & Twist, Coco Curly Butter and Cocoa Hemp Buttercream. I get the tightest curl with lots of root curl from all of them. I generally use them as a leave in with a curl creme, or two, type product on top.

mims texas - I just got my bottle of aloe honey jelly, if you want I can send you a small sample to try while you wait for it to come back in stock. I'm gonna try it tomorrow after I shower.
Scarriecarrie: which one is your favorite of the lock and twist and cocoa butter? I think the hemp may be too heavy for me, my hair doesn't seem to need all the moisture that the butters seem to deliver, at least the real heavy stuff. I do better with the lighter stuff like aloe and flax seed. The hemp butter does seem to absorb quickly though, I will be experimenting!

KM: I got samples of the cocoa butter and hemp butter with my order, how do you use these? If I use the lock and twist I won't be able to use the others, at least not together, I think it will be too much for my hair.
I think I will try the cocoa butter under the aloe honey jelly and see what kind of hold I get with just those 2 products. I also received my tub of lock and twist and it smells different and feels thicker than my last tub (??) (I ended up giving the rest of the last tub of L&T to a friend who loves it and can't afford to order anything right now). You were right about the cocoa butter being lighter than the lock and twist, can't wait to try different combos of all my donna marie samples and stuff I ordered!

    Here's the response:

"Thank you. I suppose the Honey & Aloe Jelly will be in stock no later than January 5. I'll update this on the website."

Discobug, if you can use L & T, I don't know why you couldn't use the Cocoa Hemp--just not together. I could use the Coco Curly Butter with either of the others, but seldom do. I know if I use one of those DM products, I will have tight curls starting at the root--with almost any combination of products. I use very little of the Lock & Twist or Cocoa Hemp as my first product out of the shower, probably four or five times as much of the CCB.

Can I ask about the smell?

I am super fragrance sensitive and once it's on your hair you can't smell it.
Suburbanbushbabe, does using the Aloe and Honey Curl Jelly after DT keep the hair soft or would you suggest using a moisturizing leave-in before the jelly?
    @Greatcurls -- leave-in first for sure.
