Alcohol Denat---Drying?

Is this a drying ingredient?

I was in the store today and a woman asked for Burt's Bees Tomato Toner. The second ingredient is Alcohol Denat. For some reason, this product is sold out around the city (also overhead this), and out of stock on the Burt's Bees website. Must be really good...

Has anyone tried it?

It's drying for me. Gels or mousses I've used with that ingredient right upfront have always been very drying. I now use [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Jessicurl-Confident-Coils-Styling-Solution-p-116.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=jessicurl-confident-coils-styling-solution]Jessicurl's CCSS[/buylink] (which is an alcohol-free gel) and no more drying, just very soft curls. Even the hairdresser (who doesn't know how to dry curls), asked me how I style it.

I'd want more info from the manufacturer on that. The only alcohol I will use on my face is SD 40, which is cosmetic grade. It's not drying because it's relatively pure alcohol (only 8% water I believe) and it evaporates very fast before it can be drying). SD stands for Special Denatured, so I would probably email Burt's Bees company and ask them what grade their denatured alcohol is. Usually, though, they'll say if it's SD 40.

It's a very drying ingredient. Denatured alcohol is the stuff they swab you with before a shot.

Denatured alcohol can be used for surgical scrubbing (I think that's SD 30 grade? not sure), but for regular old shots, they generally use isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol), which is very drying and shouldn't be used on the face at all.

I used the tomato toner and like it a lot. It keeps my face from getting oily and removes all the residue from my face wash and makeup really well. It smells great too.It feels drying but you have to put a moisturizer on afterwards. I use Oil of Olay complete.
